Iris

For several years now, enthusiastic synthpop fans have been waiting for more material from the duo that came out with the brilliant song "Annie, Would I Lie to You?" on a Swedish compilation. That band, of course, was Austin, Texas based Forgiving Iris, now known simply as Iris, who have signed with the A Different Drum label and finally released two singles and a full length CD with nine original tracks and a cover song.

Iris is a great band, with smoothly textured and layered synths, harsher guitar sounds (although I didn't notice any actual guitars in the credits) thanks to programmer Michael Morris and silky, strong vocals thanks to songwriter and singer Reagan Jones.

Iris's debut album, Disconnect features a suite of strong songs, mostly dance-floor oriented, although not too overtly. Some songs are strongly reminiscent of the Pet Shop Boys, other sound miles away from them, but they don't have a bad track.
