No Decay
No Decay is a trio from Potsdam in what was the former East German Republic. While they are in many ways a typically German synthpop band, with dark themes and tones, No Decay has some unique features that serve to make them stand out from their Teutonic collegues. For one thing, No Decay eschews the typical pop song format, the catchy melodies and clever hooks that make up much of the synthpop genre. Rather, No Decay is an artistic band, and the art song is more important to them than the pop song. They also utilize a unique sound library to capitulize on the "electronic-ness" of their music.
Because of this uniqueness in format and style, No Decay is a band that is hard to latch on to initially. However, since I got No Decay in the Synthphony Records sale some months ago, I've found that they are consistently delightful to listen to. I usually have to vary the conditions in which I listen to them: I can't pick out a few favorite songs and listen to them while I do something else; No Decay is best appreciated if you listen to the entire album and concentrate on the experience so that artistic nature of the songs can be teased out.
