Let's Fall In Love
Like its companion piece Send Me an Angel '89, the 1989 release of Let's Fall in Love is a collection of songs released on the band's prior Aussie releases Heartland and Flame. Unfortunately, most of the good songs went to Angel and this release is left with what amounts to filler. Very little of it is bad, but only a few tracks stand out at all, and most of them I could take or leave with equal interest.

Luckily they decided to start out strong with this re-release. "Let's Fall in Love, the title track, is a peppy, upbeat song more reminiscent of Erasure or some such than the darker fare associated with Real Life. It is pretty much as good as anything on the much better recieved Send Me an Angel '89 cd.

The next three songs, "Flame," "Exploding Bullets" and "Openhearted" are filler songs. Bleh. "The Legend" on the other hand, has a very good chorus, and interesting lyrics (different than the norm for the genre, at least) which makes is stand out slightly. "Bleeding Babies", another version of "Babies" from the prior cd is good, and different enough from the other version that I don't mind having it twice. Also, "The Longest Day," the next song, is a little more memorable than most due to the nice chorus.

However, the last three songs are back to filler material, "I Wish," "Burning Blue," and "Cathedral." These last three slow the cd down quite a bit, too. "Cathedral" is interesting as a novelty piece, but isn't really good enough to be considered a highlight of the cd.

Overall, this wasn't nearly as strong a release as Send Me an Angel '89 was, but it does have a few good moments, and it's nice for the completist who wants to have as much of the old material as he can. In fact, between these two cds, all of the songs on Heartland and Flame are available except two.
