For this week, I've selected "If I Ever" by Red Flag. Red Flag was one of the late 80's imitator bands: in particular, they imitated current Depeche Mode. The vocal delivery and synth work could almost have come from Music for the Masses. However, Red Flag lacked Depeche Mode's ingenuity, and many of their songs ended up sounding very much the same. They were still a strong band, though, and if the songs were similar, they were similarly good. "If I Ever" was one of the best: dark, heavy and fast-paced, with the kind of synth-pop lyrics that fans have loved to hear ever since the first tortured soul invented the genre.
