This Mexican Power Metal band is conformed by Victor "Gizmo" Reza (drums), Carlos De la Peña (bass guitar) Janel De Polanco (leader guitar) and Javier Herrera (vocals and rhythm guitar). Makina born in Mexico City in 1990 after an experimental Death/Thrash Metal band project called Makina Negra.

In 1991, they released their first album as Makina titled "Dilemma" (Lejos Del Paraíso, Independent Label), and it was distributed in all Mexico as well as the whole South of the U.S.; during that year the band played around 35 concerts in every single state of the Mexican Republic, alternating with such bands as D.R.I., Sodom, Napalm Death and Dead Angel. From this first album they released the single "Ciudad De Cagadas" ("City Of Shits"), in which the band talks about corruption and other problems that people have living in a big place like Mexico City.

In 1994 the band released their second album titled "Anabiosis" (Discos Rockotitlán, subsidiary of Sony Music), with which Makina got known all over the U.S. and great part of Europe, thanks to the video of the song "Nymphomaniac" which started to rotate in MTV’s Headbangers Ball. The concept of "Anabiosis" is basically ecological; its lyrics talk about the origins of life, the concern of human beings about the environment, destruction, repression and other themes like the violation of human rights.

Definitely, "Anabiosis" didn’t succeeded to much as a record, but thanks to the international record company, Makina finally got promotion outside the American Continent, getting them to be known in many countries of the old continent, which gave them the opportunity to alternate with such bands of the size of Iron Maiden, Napalm Death, Sepultura, Malevolent Creation, Nuclear Assault, Devastation, Sacred Reich, Brutal Truth, Kreator, Sodom and Mercyful Fate.

Makina have participated in different festivals like: "Mexican Mosh Festival" (1992), "New Titans Over Mexico" (1993 -also participated Sepultura and Napalm Death-), "Rock Por La Paz" (1994), "South By Southwest" (Austin, TX, 1995), "Festival Va Por Chiapas" (1996), "Festival De Metal Latino" (1996 - also participated A.N.I.M.A.L. of Argentina and Criminal of Chile, among others-).

Makina’s songs are basically composed and performed in English, with the purpose of getting an internationalization. The themes of their compositions are very polemic, and generally treat about what it happens in Mexico, thus becoming in spokesmen of the national Mexican occurrence internationally.

The band’s third album, "Red" (Discos Manicomio, subsidiary of PolyGram Records), was released in 1996 and it was co-produced between Makina, Billy Gould (bassist of Faith No More) and Matt Green. This album’s concept is basically protest and feelings; it’s a very visceral record, for it expresses the band’s feeling about Mexico’s economic, social and political current situation: "Red is the voice; it’s the scream of a nation rapped by corruption and abuse of the human rights" -Gizmo-. From "Red" there are some hits like "Terror", "Red", "K.F.S." and "Chorizo", a Spanish tune in which Makina denounces all of the injustices and other shits committed during ex-president Carlos Salinas De Gortari’s administration.

Makina is a visionary band that is looking to expand and get known all over the world. In their plans it’s foreseen to contact with many countries that might be interested in distribute their records, and they also wish to make it to the Monsters Of Rock Festival in Brazil, just to demonstrate that here in Mexico the good Metal is made also.

De éste primer álbum se desprende el sencillo "Ciudad De Cagadas", en el cual se habla de la corrupción y otros problemas que se viven en una gran urbe como la Ciudad de México.

En 1994 la banda lanzó su segundo álbum titulado "Anabiosis" (Discos Rockotitlán, subsidiaria de Sony Music), con el cual Makina se dio a conocer en todo Estados Unidos y gran parte de Europa, gracias al video de la canción "Nymphomaniac" que comenzó a rotar en el Headbangers Ball de MTV. El tercer álbum de la banda, "Red" (Discos Manicomio, subsidiaria de Discos PolyGram), salió a la luz en 1996 y fue co-producido entre Makina, Billy Gould (bajista de Faith No More) y Matt Green. El concepto de éste álbum es básicamente protesta y sentimientos; es un disco muy visceral, ya que expresa el sentir de la banda acerca de la situación económica, social y política del México actual: "Red es la voz; es el grito de un pueblo violado por la corrupción y el atropello a los derechos humanos" -Gizmo-. De "Red" se desprenden varios éxitos entre los que se encuentran "Terror", "Red", "K.F.S." y "Chorizo", rola en español en la cual Makina denuncia todas las injusticias y demás mierdas cometidas durante la administración del ex-presidente Carlos Salinas De Gortari.

Makina es una banda visionaria que busca expandirse y darse a conocer por todo el mundo. Entre sus planes está contemplado contactar con varios países que se interesen en distribuir sus discos y también desean llegar al Festival Monsters Of Rock en Brasil, para demostrar que en México también se hace buen Metal.
