The Pietasters - Willis | |
The 5th (i think) album realesed by DC's best known ska band, Willis was
NOT released on moon, but Hellcat, which would be the third record company they've
recorder for. I have no idea why the switch, most probably a matter of mony, as this is
the on of the three recent ex-moon bands switching to Hellcat, The Slackers and Hepcat are
the other two. Anyways, i was waiting for the realese of this album all last year, and
when it finally did come out, i was a little disapointed. Six of the 13 songs are either
covers, or were already previously released. But after listening to the album my
disapointment changed into satisfaction. Every song that was redone, sounds so much better
than the first one, no doubt due to the higher quality of both equipment and the band
compared to the first time. The band slimed down to only 7 members, which gives off a
leaner, yet still good sound. The style definitly has also changed, there is alot more
soul influence on this album then ooh loo loo, which was released a while ago on moon.
This album has been much more diverse then any other one. The songs range from Garage
rock/soul all the way to the Traditional ska that the Pietasters play so well (Moment is
the best song by far). Also on Ooh Loo Loo, a few of the songs sound alo alike, NONE of
the songs of "Willis" sound remotly similar. So anyways, thats the review.
"Willis" is not gona be a favorite CD of mine ever, but it definitly spends at
least one day a week or two in the CD player. guin.. (im pretty sure thats your name) whats the other CD's you wanted me to do? |
