Slackers

The Slackers - REDLIGHT

I've been sweating the Slackers new cd for awhile, and when I say sweat I mean it! I think that Vic Ruggiero must have the sexiest voice in the world. The songs are enough to leave you wanting more. But looking at the cd from a more unisex point of view, it's still damned good. The music is very skillfully played. Good rhythm, and lyrics are very clever. If you're a Slackers fan you would not be disappointed. If you haven't heard any Slackers before, this would definitely initiate you into the fan circle.

The twelve tracks on this sophomore Slackers album each have a very distinct sound to them. It kicks off with a tribute the the Skatalites, Cooking for Tommy. In my opinion it's done pretty well. It's always interesting to hear different bands play Skatalites and speaking fairly, I believe that it sounds good. My favorites are I Still Love You, Soldier, You Must be Good, and Come Back Baby. These are the more slow and melodic tunes. This album released under Tim Armstrong's Hellcat Records gives you 45 minutes of pure bliss. It comes in a cool cardboard cover. I think the Slackers are one of the best ska bands around today. They got their unique oldschool sound accompanied by skilled guitar beats and the horns that we all love. If you're into the more punky, or fast ska-core, then the Slackers probably wouldn't be your top choice but give it a chance, You won't be disappointed.
