Review by OJ
Just got back from Sacramento 1...Not as many surprises as Monday, but they did switch some stuff around.
The songs, with comments when I feel like it:
Jumping Jack Flash (I'm still not used to having this up front, but it sounded better than it did on Monday, I thought).
Live with Me
Respectable (Ron was very heavy in the mix here, but I didn't hear much of Keith)
You Got Me Rocking (fortunately, Keith didn't stay buried for long...he came through nice and clear on this one).
Undercover
Memory Motel (I've seen it live three times now, and this was easily the best version I've heard some cool soloing by Keith, which is not to mention his back-up vocals)
Sweet Virginia (YAY! I've always wanted to hear this one, and it sounded better than I thought considering Ron and Keef were on electric guitars -- Mick played acoustic)
Some Girls (not as angry as it was in Oakland, and the line "Some girls give me children I never asked 'em for" was either absent or I missed it)
Paint it Black (the crowd stood back up for this one after sitting down during Memory)
Honky Tonk Women (the horns return, as does Keef's "impromptu" piano solo -- complete with stomp to the keyboard) band intros (when introducing the new sax player, Mick says "He's never played with the Rolling Stones in Sacramento." Mick forgets to mention that neither have Lisa, Bernard, Blondie, Chuck, Darryl, Bobby or Ron.)
You Got the Silver (Keith: "Last time I was here, I got electrocuted. That's why I'm playing acoustic tonight.")
You Don't Have to Mean It
Out of Control (no cage -- it was hovering above stage, so I don't know if they meant to keep it out or if it just wouldn't lower)
-------small stage
Route 66
Imagination (absolutely amazing, with nice back-up vocals from Keef)Midnight Rambler (I think it's well documented how I feel about Mick and the harp -- tonight's version was a little longer than Oakland's...mucho hotness)
------back to the main stage
Saint of Me (us goofy Sacramenta hicks were simply unable to keep the beat for the sing-a-long at the end...everybody on stage tried to get the crowd to keep up, but it was useless)
Only Rock'n'Roll
Start Me Up
Brown Sugar (topping off a brilliant night from Charlie...of course he's always amazing, but he was something special tonight).
------encores
Sympathy (the horns again threw me off a bit, and the boys really seemed to have peaked during Brown Sugar -- very abrupt ending...but, for the ladies in the audience who want to know...Mick. Shirt open. It's almost a freak show, what good shape he's in.)
Overall, a great night. Instead of the very back, I was down on the lower level in the section next to the stage, on Keith's side. Excellent view.
And, for the first time in 11 shows, I didn't have a two hour drive home. Yippie!
