Review by Davis McGregor

Here are some of my impressions from the show.  The setlist has already been posted.  It was a mite disappointing.  We thought they would change at least a couple of songs in the first half.  The only thing changed was moving TD to the tourist section and Keef.  Looks like YGTS will be there for the long run (great to hear this, Keef and Ronnie both playing acoustic slide) and the other one will rotate.  I really wanted to hear Before They Make Me Run but...

There has been a lot of discussion about the setlist yesterday and today.  There are ~1000 on this list.  There are probably 20,000 in an arena, every two days.  We are the minority.  The crowd was on its feet dancing during the tourist section at both Denver and SLC.  They come to hear these songs.  We can disparage these people all we want but really this is just elitism.  Only a very small minority of fans go to even two concerts on a tour, or even to one on every tour.  You can bitch and moan about it, or you can just go enjoy the music.  It ain't going to change.  (steps off soapbox).

And now, on with the show...

Jumping Jack Flash-the last song played in the recorded music before the show starts is "Ball of Confusion.  Make sure you're back in your seat before this ends.  The movie they show before the show starts is really cool.  Faux "security camera" pictures of the boys striding through back hallways.  I wish I could get a copy of this.  Maybe they will put it out on video.

Respectable-Mick on red strat.  The guy's been taking guitar lessons or something.  The songs he plays guitar on are great.

Memory Motel-I like this song, I know a lot of you don't.  I think this is going to end up being one they play every time.  It's really the only slow song they play.  The crowd likes it, people crying and stuff.

Sweet Virginia-crowd singing along, harmonica sounds great.  Mick on acoustic when not playing harp.

Some Girls-OK, now we get to the meat.  These next three songs just rock. This is the best song of this tour.  Mick on red Strat again. Flying back and forth across the stage.  Spitting out the lyrics. Flailing at the guitar.  Whole band tight as a june bride.  Crowd loves it.  "You white girls just want to get FUCKED all night and I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH JAM" pointing out at the crowd.

Paint It Black-Very tight, intense

Saint of Me-Just great.  Mick went out to the middle of the walkway to the B stage for the singalong, which he didn't do in Denver. Gets in a little slam on the Mormons. "Everybody feeling saintly tonight? NOOOOOO.  (Mormons call themselves "saints")  Overall this crowd was really into the show.  Most people in the lower sections and on the floor stood for the entire show.

Out of Control-no cage.  I'm glad.  Mick just zooms up.  It almost looks like he appears out of nowhere.  The cage is a distraction.

Midnight Rambler-This is the other highlight of the show.  The band is just barely in control.  During the slow part (heard about the Boston...), Keef plays like a caged animal, little riffs and stray notes breaking out.  The crash into the last part is like an orgasm.

Start Me Up-some serious old time weaving here between Keef and Ronnie. Trading the lead back and forth, playing off each other.  As I said after the Denver show, Ronnie's back.

SFTD (encore)-*Please* get rid of the fucking horns!  I wish they would get rid of all the horns completely except Bobby Keys.  They are too Vegasy and ruin every song they appear in IMHFO.
