We should all be familiar with alcohol and its effects.  We need not to drink a bottle of beer or wine to know what it feels like.  If we are smart, we can listen to other people and what they think.   More specifically, we could listen to our parents or people who had problems with it.  How does this apply to a webpage?  For example, you may here how good or bad a page is.

I went to the page out of a request, and I have been informed that it is "Under Construction."  Let's keep that in mind in the review.

Graphics

Upon arriving to the page you have a large image that you will have to click on to enter the secondary page.  In the secondary page you have a very simple interface which downloads quickly.  There is an image in the center of a white background.  On the right side of the image are the sections or the directory for the page.  The only main problem I had with this was that the words looked fuzzy -- but that is only font related.

If we scroll down just a bit you will see the site news and updates.  Graphically, this page is pleasant to look at because it is quite simple.  However for those of you who are a little more demanding for better, more exclusive graphics, this may not be your type of page.

Concerning browsers, there is no big difference.  It seems as though Netscape had a more difficult time downloading the image map.  The page seems to work best with 800x600 pixels.

Multimedia

Here is something I found odd: in Internet Explorer, the image map works fine. In Netscape Navigator, it does not show.

  • Real Audio - Coming soon.

  • Pictures - Broken link.

  • Real Player movies - Four movies: 'Molly's Lips', 'Dive', 'Lithium,' and 'Rape Me.'

  • Quick Time - Six movies: 'Heart-shaped Box,' 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' 'Love Buzz,' 'Breed,' 'Drain You,' and 'Aneurysm.'  To make sure, I tested 'Drain You,' and I received an error.  I am not sure about the other ones, however I did a test on 'Aneurysm' and it worked just fine.

  • Downloads - The regular stuff.  Mostly multimedia files, as for the Nirvana-related files, you can not download them because there is no hyperlink for them.

As you can definitely see from the Multimedia section, this page is under construction.  At least it offers some things.  From the Multimedia section there is nothing abnormal.

Tabs

A quick and easy access to all of the songs because they are on one page.  I am not sure if they are all of the songs, but I would say most of them.  It includes some tips as well as power chords.   At the time the page only has guitar tabs.

Lyrics

Under construction.

Bootlegs Info.

Containing list of bootlegs and rules for trading.  It could be a little more resourceful in regards to weither the show is on a CD or tape format.  In Netscape, the page is blank.

MP3 of the Week

In Netscape, just like in the Bootlegs Info., it shows a blank page. The weird thing is that it actually leads to the Tabs section.  So, I can not really see how this section is if I can not see it.   It reminds me of the saying, "Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it really isn't there."

Covers

The same problem in Netscape as before.  Again, it will lead you to the tabs section.  Just type in 'covers.htm' instead of 'tabs.htm' as it is listed.  You will find a variety of songs by a few people.  The songs are in '.RA' format.

FAQs and Information/Links

I can not access the area because the image is not clickable. In the Links section, you have the option of banner links or non-banner links.

Connection

About the test:

  • Both browsers were closed during the test.

  • Internet Explorer was opened and tested, Netscape was tested after.

  • Address for the main page, or page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted in the testing browser.

  • Time was ended when the icon in the top right hand corner stopped.

Internet Explorer:  40 seconds
Netscape Navigator: 42 seconds

As you can tell, there was hardly a difference in the speed it downloads in.  Sometimes sections will differ though.

The connection test was done on a 56k Winmodem connected at 42,666 bps.  Remember download times will vary depending on your modem speed, browser, server of the page, telephone line activity, and your internet service provide (ISP).  This will not guarantee that the page will download at the same rate on your computer as it does mine, this is just an estimate.

Conclusion

It's not a great page.  But it is a start.   If it continues to strive in originality and information and multimedia, this could become a successful page.
