Introduction
Sometimes people can not get enough of
something. It could be money, drugs, attention, or other things. It is not
always negative though. However some things are are different to different people.
For instance, bootlegs. For fans of a particular group, bootlegs offer more
than what you can buy at a record store, and sometimes those shows or what not will never
be released. To record companies, they are a nightmare. People are making
profits off of their acts, thus they lose money.
That is where Digital Nirvana comes into place.
One of the many sites that is solely dedicated to bootleg trading, it will be hard
to keep up with other sites such as The Nirvana Setlister and others. From my
understanding, the site is undergoing some experimental changes in its interface.
Graphics
The graphics on this site are favorable.
The simplicity is great. It may not be top-notch like Grunger's Corner, but it does
have its good sides. The page is not afraid to use tables.
As for the browser and settings, it can go
either way with IE or Netscape. The settings that I would recommend would be 800x600
for your resolution. If you have a smaller monitor or a less powerful video card, I
am sure you can get away with 600x400 with no major problems.
From the screenshot below, the banner is a bit
over-sized, but it does not bother me that much. As I mentioned earlier, the page
uses tables, which you can see in the left hand column. At the bottom of the page is
information about the page and how to link to it, etc.

Bootlegs
Okay, so this page is not going to have any
content or any multimedia for that matter. What will it have? Bootleg
information.
The first section are the new additions.
In a table it gives the track listings and the time for each. At the right hand
corner you will see the cover for the bootleg. At the bottom you will find three or
four paragraphs about the show, or a review there of.
The next main category is the Directory.
This is where everything is listed. The General Information sections gives some
background on the page and the rating system it uses for reviews. It should be a
little more specific about that, but it seems fair enough.
Following that are the Bootleg Discs section.
Here we find every show that the page has to offer, including a score from the
review. If possible, try getting a search engine. There is a way to see the
listed by dates, and by clicking on a link that is shown on the top of the page, you can.
If you go to that, you will get a list, but not a table.
Something that is not related to bootlegs that
this page has is the Links section. Nothing much here, but that is not expected.
It does provide a few helpful links.
Connection
About the test:
Both browsers were closed
before the test.
Internet Explorer was opened
and tested, Netscape was tested after.
Address for the main page, or
page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted
in the testing browser.
Time was ended when the icon
in the top right hand corner stopped.
Internet Explorer: 55 sec.
Netscape Navigator: 4 sec.
Surprised? Dismayed?
Shocked? There is an explanation. The first time I visited the
page in both browsers, it took well over a minute to load up. Each time my browser
became "used" to the page, so it downloads a lot quicker. The winner is
Netscape.
Conclusion
For those of you who are just
regular internet surfers looking for the basic stuff like content and multimedia, this
page is not for you. However if your a bootleg collector and trader, this page is
definitely for you. The only thing I could not find in it were the rules for
trading. Other than that, it makes a great page for information about bootlegs.
