Introduction

Most of us have tried to find Nirvana pages on a search engine.  A lot of the time, we come across a page that has not been updated for quite a while, and it still manages to get 500,000 hits on its counter.  Either it was false, or perhaps the page is "lucky."  How can you tell if a page is outdated?  There are a number of ways.  One, the layout; but that could be deceiving somewhat.  The most important thing to look for in a page is the information, that will give a clear answer as to how much it has been updated.

Graphics

About the test:

  • Matrox Millineum G200 8MB used.

  • ASTVision 4I monitor used at 16-bit color and 800x600 pixels.

  • Browsers tested: IE Beta 5/Opera 3.51/Netscape Navigator 4.01/NeoPlanet 2.0.

Remember the good ol' Smiley background?  It came in a variety of colors, yellow/black, red/white, and now, black/blue.  The format is probably the most simpliest formats I have seen in any page for a while.  It has the sections listed in bullets.  The format is good, everything does not mix well because of the colors, which makes it hard to read the text.

All of the browsers is suited for the page.

Connectivity Test

About the test:

  • All browsers were closed before the test.

  • Order of testing: Internet Explorer Beta 5.0, Opera 3.51, Netscape Navigator 4.01, NeoPlanet 2.0.  One browser was tested at a time, all other browsers were closed during a browser's test.

  • Address for the main page, or page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted in the testing browser.

  • Time was ended when the icon in the top right hand corner stopped.

  • U.S. Robotics Pratical Winmodem 56k installed during test.

  • Time shown in minute/second format.

Internet Explorer - [1:12]
Opera 3.51 - [00:10]
Neoplanet - [00:29]
Netscape Navigator - not available

Hmm, simply amazing for Opera.  The browser really nailed Neoplanet and IE in this connectivity test.   Opera downloads pages a lot faster, and you can also open multiple windows.   Check it out at Opera Software.

Disclaimer: The connection test was done on a 56k Winmodem connected at 36,000 bps.  Remember download times will vary depending on your modem speed, browser, server of the page, telephone line activity, and your internet service provide (ISP).  This will not guarantee that the page will download at the same rate on your computer as it does mine, this is just an estimate.

Information

The following list contains sections on this page that are related to information.  There will be a description and impression of that section, if possible.

  • Lyrics - Here you will find the lyrics for all of the albums except for rare songs and Wishkah.   When you click on a section, you will be greeted by red text and a black background.

  • Tabs - Similar to the Lyrics section.

  • Java Chord Table - This section contains a table with certain "chords" listed in it.  Click on a chord, and then click on "Set," then it will show you how to do it with the table...pretty neat.

  • Links - Contains seven links which are a bit outdated in content and links.

Multimedia

The following list contains sections on this page that are related to multimedia.  There will be a description and impression of that section, if possible.

  • Music Game - Test your knowledge with this game.  Pretty confusing..not because of the questions, but because of the way it is set up.

  • Chat rooms - There are four chat rooms.  Hence they are not all the same, they are in different formats and in different applets.  Very helpful for the people that do not have a supportive browser for a particular chat room.

  • Pictures - Eight total pictures.  Complete with a thumbnail, and to the right of the thumbnail is a short description of the picture.

  • Suicide Note/Death Certificate - Pictures of the note and Kurt's death certificate.

Conclusion

Not a whole lot to say about this page. It is a little bit dissapointing for today's "standard."  The page is a year or two outdated, and that can be a big turn-off.  The format seems okay, but because of the length of the page, the download time was a litttle bit overwhelming for most browsers. Should you skip this one?  If you wanted to.
