Introduction
Every waterfall begins with a
first drop. Every Nirvana pages, most of them, have a similar story. The first
drop is rather easy. All you need to do is get a HTML editor of some sort, find a
server (in most cases a free one), and your pretty much set. A lot of pages are very
devoted to what it stands for. Nevertheless after a while some people call it quits.
Graphics
The page is rather simplistic.
As I have mentioned before, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a simple
page with a few graphics here and there. The page has you click on a Smiley face to
enter into its secondary page.
There is no difference between
Netscape and Internet Explorer concerning the interface look for the page. You can
hardly notice a difference. There are frames on the page, Internet Explorer
and Netscape does a nice job keeping it together. The only main difference I found
was that in the left-hand column, which has a frame, the images, each on in Netscape seems
to be a little poor in quality as compared to Internet Explorer, but again, there is no
major consequence.
Sounds
A thing that many sites have
these days in sounds. There are many varities of formats. This site has
established its sounds section on MP3 formatted files. These all come from the Nirvana
Sounds Network, but permission was granted. It offers a nice list of songs, not
too long, but not too short either. The length of the files is unavaliable, but I
presume that they could be full-length or no more than a minute. Hence the size of
the file was not included.
Pictures
There are five (5) pages of
pictures. Most them are from The Internet Nirvana Fanclub page. One
of the things I did like about this picture gallery was that there were no ads by it and
the fact that it downloaded rather quickly.
Movies
At the time of the review, there
were only six (6) movies that this site had. Since the movie files are linked from
MTV's website, they will probably be thirty (30) seconds.
Interviews
At the time of the review, there
were only two (2) interviews that the site had. However the Nevermind
interview section, from the looks of it, are quotes from the interview, or other
interviews. The second article is about Kurt's suicide.
Fan's Art
Well, since this page is just
getting started, there are no fan's arts available. Hopefully there will be more to
come.
New Album
Most of the information found
here is the same information you can find at INFC. My suggestion would to
have the webmaster add his opinions.
Suicide/Murder Theory
Again, not one of my favorite
sections to talk about or even read. However this page strictly believes that Kurt
was murdered, and there are some columntaries, including Tom Grant's Investigation, about
the whole matter. You can find the webmaster's opinion, as well as Chris White's
opinion.
Chat
There is a chat room in this
page. It is Java based, and like most Java applications, it does take a little time
to load up.
Lyrics
Nothing new here, but you can
find the lyrics for all of the albums. If you click on an album, the lyrics should
load up fairly quick because it is just text that is contained in that section.
Guitar/Bass tabs and
FAQs
In both sections, which is not
divided up by albums, is just straight in your face. You click on Guitar tabs, for
example, and you get all of the songs (or most there of), and the same applies to the bass
tabs. In addition, the page has the Nirvana FAQ. Although the Story is not
considered a FAQ, it does list some information. It is not very neat, but hopefully
it will be soon enough. The paragraphs are not in its proper order.
Bootlegs/Links/Author
You can trade bootlegs with the
webmaster of the page. Take a look at the list of his wants and what he can give
you. In its destinated area, you can view some of the links which mostly consist of
banners; finally, you can view information about the webmaster.
Connection
About the test:
Both browsers were closed
during the test.
Internet Explorer was opened
and tested, Netscape was tested after.
Address for the main page, or
page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted
in the testing browser.
Time was ended when the icon
in the top right hand corner stopped.
Internet Explorer: 39 seconds
Netscape Navigator: 35 seconds
Looks like Netscape Navigator
had a slight edge over Internet Explorer in this case. It probably has to do with
the frames.
The connection test was done on a
56k Winmodem connected at 36,000 bps. Remember download times will vary depending on
your modem speed, browser, server of the page, telephone line activity, and your internet
service provide (ISP). This will not guarantee that the page will download at the
same rate on your computer as it does mine, this is just an estimate.
Conclusion
I was not expecting too much out of this page,
mainly because it is only a few days old. However if it was a year old, then I would
have been dissapointed in it. I hope that it will continue to add content,
specifically original content.
