Introduction
There are some pages out there that we have
probably never heard of. In "some" of those pages, they would be most
beneficial to us if we actually heard about the site and visited it. But in reality,
that is pretty hard. There are many reasons for this: search engines, advertising,
and how the word gets around about the site. A site can be the best site around, but
concerning hits (or the amount of people that visit the page), it could be a lot lower
than its quality.
Graphics
About the test:
Matrox Millenium G200 8MB
used.
ASTVision 4I monitor used at
16-bit color and 800x600 pixels.
Browsers tested: IE Beta
5/Opera 3.51/Netscape Navigator 4.01/NeoPlanet 2.0.
This page has great quality
graphics that is simple and direct. You can expect a black background, with an
introduction at the top, a banner, the sections, and the updates for the site. How
simple is that? If your using IE or Neoplanet, if your move your cursor over a link,
the words will highlight. There is also a drop-down menu in which you can also use
to get around the site. Another neat thing about the page is that is "centered"
(meaning that everything is in the center of the page, but not aligned.

As for Netscape, the site is not
too bad at all. Indeed, you will not get the same features as IE users, but the
drop-down menu does look better in Netscape. In Opera, although the search
menu does not look its best -- everything else seems to look just fine.
Connectivity Test
About the test:
All browsers were closed
before the test.
Order of testing: Internet
Explorer Beta 5.0, Opera 3.51, Netscape Navigator 4.01, NeoPlanet 2.0. One browser
was tested at a time, all other browsers were closed during a browser's test.
Address for the main page, or
page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted
in the testing browser.
Time was ended when the icon
in the top right hand corner stopped.
U.S.
Robotics Practical Winmodem 56k installed
during test.

So this page is Netscape
"friendly" after all. Sure, it offers some HTML disadvantages, but the
connectivity exceeds the competition, even a browser like Opera.
Disclaimer: The
connection test was done on a 56k Winmodem connected at 32,000 bps. Remember
download times will vary depending on your modem speed, browser, server of the page,
telephone line activity, and your internet service provide (ISP). This will not
guarantee that the page will download at the same rate on your computer as it does mine,
this is just an estimate.
Information
The following list contains sections on this
page that relates to Information. If possible, there will be a description and
impression of that section.
Releases
- When you first click on the releases section on the main page, you have the following
sections: Albums, Singles/Promotions, Interviews/Miscellaneous, and Videos. Each
album/video listed in each section gives the tracks to the album, who-did-what, and any
information regarding the recording.
Nirvana
Information - Contains the following: Bio., Pictures (we'll get to that
later), Tour Chronology, Lyrics and Media (which we will also get to later). The
information found here is nothing new, but it is a start. As for the lyrics, you
will have another drop-down menu consisting of each album, except Wishkah.
General
Information - Contains information about Pat, Chris and Dave.
Believe it or not, Pat will be 40 in August.
Links
- Contains 18 links which you should be familiar with.
1967-1994
- Of course, this section is about Kurt. Here you will find his biography, pictures,
his death certificate and the note.
Drummer Jokes
- This section has Dave's 10 drummer jokes. If you haven't seen it already, go ahead
and visit it. If you have, don't worry about it.
Sea Horse
- Information about the sea horse animal. Apparently this was found on a Nirvana
shirt.
Multimedia
The following list contains sections on this
page that relates to Multimedia. If possible, there will be a description and
impression of that section.
Kurt pictures
- It takes a while for the pictures to download. My suggestion would be to have
these pictures divided up into different pages. Actually, there are...but since the
pictures are in different sizes, the connection is a bit too lengthy. However the
quality of the pictures are pretty good, and there are some good pictures here
and there.
Media
- A section that contains a few files: "Curmudgeon" in Real Audio,
"D7," in Real Audio, "Even In His Youth," and also "I Hate Myself
and Want to Die." All in Real Audio. The links, however, do not work. You can
also download the Onyx font.
Conclusion
This is a pretty good, organized, and developing
page. The only weaknesses I found in it were the picture gallery, and the lack of
original information. It does offer some good information, and that is great, but
it'll need much more to survive. Also the files (as far as the Real Audio ones) do
not work. A good page with effort put into it.
