Page: Pay to Play, a Nirvana Covers Page

Introduction

Webmasters, including myself, remember when we first started out.  The Nirvana community seemed so big.  We wanted to attract visitors, and let the world know who we are.  No, our graphics were not advanced and neither were our content.  For a lot of us, this was our first time building a webpage.  This sort of applies to Pay to Play.

Graphics

A very simple layout.  The first thing you will see is a banner for the page.  Below that you have the site news and updates.   If you scroll down a little bit more, you will find some images you can click on, these are your sections.  The back background, the blue fonts and the red and white images make the page very good in a sense.

Everything seems to be fine with either browser, in regards to graphics.  The page is set for 800x600 monitor resolution, and it appears to be good in 32-bit [True Color].

Connection

About the test:

  • Both browsers were closed before the test.

  • Internet Explorer was opened and tested, Netscape was tested after.

  • Address for the main page, or page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted in the testing browser.

  • Time was ended when the icon in the top right hand corner stopped.

  • U.S. Robotics Pratical Winmodem 56k installed during test.

  • Time shown in minute/second format.

Internet Explorer Beta 5 - 0:26
Netscape Navigator 4.01 - 0:32

As we can see, IE5 has a slight advantage over Netscape this time.  Keep in mind as you re-visit the page, the download time may decrease, depending on the changes the page has made.

Disclaimer: The connection test was done on a 56k Winmodem connected at 44,000 bps.  Remember download times will vary depending on your modem speed, browser, server of the page, telephone line activity, and your internet service provide (ISP).  This will not guarantee that the page will download at the same rate on your computer as it does mine, this is just an estimate.

Covers

Here's the first section, covers.  Here you will find the albums shown by their covers.  Below is a hyperlink for rarities.  Not the best organization, but that does not matter too much since the page is fairly new.   Clicking on an album cover will bring you to another page.  This page has the song and the person who did the cover.

Album

# of Covers

Bleach 3
Nevermind 4
Incesticide 1
In Utero 1
Unplugged in N.Y. 2
rarities 1

That's it for the covers.  There are currently 12 covers.  I am not trying to embarrass this page.  I understand that this page is new, and I will probably keep bringing it up during the review.   However, if the page continues to strive in other things, it should have no problem with covers.

Nirvana Info.

All of the information is from Oh The Guilt, with credit from the author.  You will find the following sections listed below:

  • Nirvana Recording Sessions -
  • Concert Chronology
  • Lyrics
  • Kurt's Equipment FAQ
  • Dave's "
  • Krist's "

The basic information.  It could also provide a lot more information.

Links

The links are all in banner form, nothing spectacular, but it does have some good links.

Top 10

When the site gets 15 covers at least, then you will be able to vote for your favorite ones.  An interesting concept.

The page information could not be displayed (broken link).

Conclusion

A decent page for starters, literally.  I can not say much about this page at this time.  Namely, it is a new page.  I can definitely tell that it is.  My main hope is that if the page can not find enough covers, then it could move in a different direction.  Otherwise, keep up the good work.
