Introduction

The http://www.home.sol.no server seems to be lucky with Nirvana pages.  Not only does it include Never Fade Away, but it also includes another page, Sliver and Paper Cuts.  Both pages are similar, but they are not exactly alike.

Connectivity Test

About the test:

  • All browsers were closed before the test.

  • Order of testing were in alphabetical order.

  • Address for the main page, or page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted in the testing browser.

  • Time was ended when the icon in the top right hand corner stopped.

  • U.S. Robotics Practical Winmodem 56k installed during test.

  • Time shown in minute/second format.

  • Read the Disclaimer for more information.

Browser Time
Internet Explorer 5 0:49
Neoplanet 2.1
Netscape 4.01 1:03
Opera 3.15 1:05

Disclaimer: The connection test was done on a 56k Winmodem connected at 32k bps.  Remember download times will vary depending on your modem speed, browser, server of the page, telephone line activity, and your internet service provide (ISP).  This will not guarantee that the page will download at the same rate on your computer as it does mine, this is just an estimate.

Graphics

About the test:

  • Matrox Millenium G200 8MB used.

  • ASTVision 4I monitor used at 16-bit color and 800x600 pixels.

  • Browsers viewed: IE   5/Opera 3.51/Netscape Navigator 4.01/NeoPlanet 2.0.

The page looks pretty good under all of the browsers -- including Opera.  At first I was a bit surprise on how pleasing the page looked under Opera, and how well the Java and the HTML worked.   Not everything remained the same but, it really would not matter.

The layout on this page is very simple, but on the inside it is very complex.  What you have is a black background, a Java script image that is absolutely awesome (you'll see what I mean).  To the left of the image are the section in links.  When you highlight each link, it will turn to the color white.  Below the image I was talking about earlier is a poll.  The page looks great in 800x600 resolution with 16-bit color.

The Page

The page does not offer too much of a variety of content.   In other words, there is plenty of sections on this page, just not enough to categorize them seperately.

  • Bootleg: Monthly - Features a particular bootleg recording.   It contains some information about it.  Futhermore, you'll find some Real Audio tracks to listen to from the recording.
  • The Nirvana Interview - Not just one interview, rather, excerpts from different interviews which add up to one review.  Very good and original.
  • Rebellious Kid - This is a pretty good (self-written) article on Kurt's life.  If you've read Come As You Are, plus many interviews, you will not find nothing much new here.  The article itself is pretty good in content.
  • Lyric Sheets - Here you will find lyric sheets to songs that Kurt was starting to write, which eventually led to better and stable songs.
  • Memory Book - This memory book is in memory of Kurt.  In a sense, it is like a guest book, but it has a more distinct purpose.
  • Nirvana ICQ - This is a list of Nirvana fans who have the ICQ ("I Seek You") program.  Here you will find information regarding their user and real name, as well as their ICQ number.  You can also become part of the list.
  • Opinions - A list of Kurt's opinions -- or meanings of -- the songs in Nevermind.
  • The WSB - Here is some informaton on the life on William Burroughs.
  • The Scream - Ever wonder where Dave was before he landed in Nirvana in 1990?  He was in the band Scream, and you can find out more by reading that section.
  • Top 10 Unique Nirvana sites - This is a list of the Top 10 Unique Nirvana sites, an interactive list like the Top 25 sites.

Conclusion

The page may not offer an extensive amount of material, but the material that it does have is very original and effective to the visitor.  Only a few sections have been seen around the internet, and even then it is not seen or used much.  In all, a very great page with good content.
