Introduction

Why do people create webpages?   That's an interesting question that a lot of people ask.  People create web sites for different reasons: personal reasons, to promote their business.  Nearly anything you can think of can be put into a website.  Like the hundreds of thousands of Nirvana pages, one person decided to create their very own Nirvana page, too.

Graphics

About the test:

  • Matrox Millineum G200 8MB used.

  • ASTVision 4I monitor used at 16-bit color and 800x600 pixels.

  • Browsers tested: IE Beta 5/Netscape Navigator 4.01/NeoPlanet 2.0.

For all of the browsers, you'll be just fine.   There are no major differences in the three browsers tested.  However I would think Netscape would be the best option...by a slight margin.

The layout on this site is just like any layout for someone is just beginning to build their web site.  Nothing fancy, but it does provide what it needs to provide.  It uses horizontal lines to separate the sections, and everything is verticle.  No tables, no frames.

Connectivity Test

About the test:

  • All browsers were closed before the test.

  • Order of testing: Internet Explorer Beta 5.0, Netscape Navigator 4.01, NeoPlanet 2.0.  One browser was tested at a time, all other browsers were closed during a browser's test.

  • Address for the main page, or page that consists of contents, or the page that was viewed in the screenshot was pasted in the testing browser.

  • Time was ended when the icon in the top right hand corner stopped.

  • U.S. Robotics Pratical Winmodem 56k installed during test.

  • Time shown in minute/second format.

Internet Explorer - [01:09]
Neoplanet 2.0 -
[01:14]
Netscape Navigator - [00:11]

It appears to be that IE and Neoplanet had a hard time downloading this page.  As usual, IE and Neoplanet are pretty similar in their download times.  IE and Neoplanet were not even close to Netscape this time.

Disclaimer: The connection test was done on a 56k Winmodem connected at 36,000 bps.  Remember download times will vary depending on your modem speed, browser, server of the page, telephone line activity, and your internet service provide (ISP).  This will not guarantee that the page will download at the same rate on your computer as it does mine, this is just an estimate.

The page

Since the page does not have many sections, it will be hard and, in some cases impossible, to divide the sections up.  Here are the sections and a description/review of each listed:

  • Pictures - There are thirteen pages of pictures.  Each page averages from 25-35 pictures.   Which is plenty.
  • Links - Mostly webrings.  The webmaster also has a webring you can join if you have a site.
  • My Band's Info - The author of the page has some details about his own band, and he posted one or two of their songs.  It gives some background information about the band.  Hopefully pictures will be added.
  • Videos - 22 videos in all.  You can select from interviews, album videos, or live shows.   Nothing original here, but of course if your looking for a few videos to download...
  • Chat room - Regular ol' chatroom.  You can chat with some fans of Nirvana, Silverchair, The Offspring, etc.
  • Sounds - 67, 30 second files.  All of these are in .rm format.
  • Awards - See some of the awards this page has received.

In the main page, you can vote, and see other banners and services.

Conclusion

A page that is off to a fairly good start.  Keep in mind that this page is not simply "a Nirvana page," but consisting of a few other bands.  It'll be hard to continue that.  Nevertheless, more multimedia and information (original stuff, that is) will make this page reserved a more firm foundation.
