Bionic Chatter

A place for random bits of Brian news and what have you. (or maybe it's just me talking to myself)

November 11th
A new dawn fades...Placebo have released an album which everyone owns except for me and people in countries where it's not out yet. Boo hoo ;p I could download it from napster but I'm not in the mood. O well! I've heard bits and pieces, I can't really see myself getting excited until they announce a US tour. ho hum...If you want to send me an album review that you'd like me to put up on this website or just plain want to tell me what you think about it, e-mail me ;)

NME recently had a really funny interview with Placebo that many people found offensive. Read it here (note: this link takes you to another website). See pictures from it here (note: this link keeps you here).

Also, something really nifty, you might have heard that the Brixton show Placebo did ages ago was shown on TV in the UK recently. Well, for those of us not in the UK or who missed it, Channel [V] in Australia has 6 songs available online to watch. I've been told this is done to coincide with 'Taste in Men' being released in Australia, hey how come THEY get TIM but in the US we don't?? Johnny and Mary, is a brilliant b-side that far makes up for my dislike of the a-side, so I recommend all you Aussies get the single regardless if you like Placebo's "new" direction! Anyways, the live songs are broken up into 2 parts and play on Windows Media, when you visit the site. You should look for the picture of Brian, where you'll find links to the clips. Now I've gotta go watch this myself, so please excuse me!

*grumblegrumble* <---the sound of someone not so pleased with 'Taste in Men'. I've given up being positive about the new single. I reallyreally dislike it. I honestly hope the album is nothing like it. I just watched an interview with the band, well mostly Brian, on NME.com. He does have a rather swank new haircut. But that aside I truely wonder how much longer I'm gonna stick around with Placebo. Obviously I'll wait for the new album. But Taste in Men just isn't what I love...or used to love about Placebo. It sounds like 'Block Rockin' Beats' from the Chemical Brothers to me. If I wanted that I would have bought one of their albums instead of my first Placebo record!

Still, I found the interview interesting, Brian said he feels perhaps it's taken the band 3 albums to know what they want to sound like. So perhaps, single aside, it'll be brilliant and the best Placebo album yet. Now all I have to due is endure the wait to find out.

So it's true. I've not updated BLO that frequently. But it's only now that we all know the NEW single is coming out soon! Called 'Taste in Men' featuring none other than the chanteuse in another band I've been missing! Caroline Finch of Linoleum fame.

I can't actually hear Caroline on the single. I've just seen the vid at The Brick Shithouse, it's interesting...I really noticed this time how electronic in sounds. But anyways, Caroline's got a fantastic voice, a bit of a mixture between Kristin Hersh and Louise Wener in my opinion. Definately check out the Lino site Dangerous Shoes. Their debut album 'Dissent' is pretty easy to find at an affordable price second hand, so I think you should check it out;) I got mine for 99 cents. I get sad when I see no one's buying it on ebay for only a few pennies. Caroline's grrt! So are Placebo for having her on their single! And just for being Placebo! If you wanna chat with me about Linoleum, feel free to. I only know one other Lino fan (and she happens to also be a Placebo fan!)

December
Ahem, so we all know Brian's birthday came and went on Dec 10th. Now, I would like to offer some congratulations to the entire band for having the 99th best selling album of the year, according to a listing in that getting-worse-by-the-day paper NME. They even sold more copies of WYIN then Another Level sold of their album. So that's one boy band down, a few hundred more to go.

Brian has been voted by Melody Maker readers the 3rd coolest person in rock. This is a HUGE step up from last year when he was the 7th uncoolest person (ahh, how fickle people are!) They said of him last year: (umm, actually I haven't a clue where my thing from last year went but it was something like...) 'Naughty sex, naughty makeup, naughty drugs. Aren't you trying a bit too hard?' And now this year they interviewed Brian bit to discover his secrets of being cool, bet no one saw that coming last year...does this mean Marilyn Manson will be considered cool next year (he's #1 uncool)??

May

In Singapore Placebo have been banned from wearing dresses on stage. My condolences go out to all who live there. Also in Placebo-esque news Velvet Goldmine is now out on video in the UK and the States and I'm guessing most other places.
