VH1 Storytellers

One of my all time music shows ever made is MTV unplugged, wherein different musicians "re-invent" their songs given the new premise of being "unplugged".  At least this was what I believe the idea behind "unplugged" was.  Anyway, I had always wondered why the Crows had never done such a show, or worse yet, I feared that they had done so, and I had missed it.  Turns out the former was true…until now.  So it didn’t come out as an MTV unplugged show, but rather as a VH1 Storytellers program, but hell, I’m not complaining since it has got to be one of the best shows ever done "unplugged" by any band (all biases aside).

Every element that makes an unplugged show great is here.  It was definitely intimate, with the "storytelling" aspect of the show making the gap between the artist and the audience almost non-existent.  What can I say, Adam Duritz really is a great storyteller, and it’s just a shame that the "monologues" before each song weren’t included because they add a whole new dimension to the whole show.  Secondly, all the songs were given "new life" and were completely "re-invented" making this a treat for any true fan.

This disc is simply more proof of how musically amazing this band really is.  And that they DO care about their music. And believe in making each song "grow" as time passes, keeping them just as relevant as they were when they were made.   Prime example, "Mr. Jones", their "hit" is totally changed and made more meaningful to fit the band’s current situation (I’ll get into that more later on).  So without taking away from what I might write later on, I’ll just leave it at that.  Ultimately, the Crows have yet to disappoint me, so they didn’t do an "unplugged" show for MTV, they did something better.
