* an article from Smash Hits (thanx a lot to Karen Johnson Kazz.johnson2@tesco.net for the information) RONAN MEETS RONAN Ronan Keating is going it alone. After six years and "a million questions" with Boyzone, Ro faces his toughest interviewer yet: the one person who knows all his secrets. Himself! Shhh. Come closer. You'll never believe this. In the middle of a roundabout, in the centre of Paris, Ronan Keating is talking to himself. If you keep shush, you can hear him... R: How are ya, Ronan? Are ya well R: Not too bad, thanks very much. It's good to talk to ya. R: You too man, hows everything going? R:Yeah, good thanks, I can't believe I'm talking to myself. Do you know it's the first sign of madness? R: And you know what the second sign is - answering yourself. R: Oh my God, I'm answering myself as well. This is really scary! R: So, umm, how have things been going with Boyzone lately... (shaking head) nah, nah, that's a terrible start. Oh dear. What's got into Ronan? Is it something in the Parisian air, or has the boy wonder lost it? Well actually it's our fault. Y'see tonight Ronan and the boyz will rock the beautiful French capital, but before that happens, Ro is keen to answer all of Smash Hits questions about his soon to be mega solo career. But the truth is, Smash Hits doesn't have any questions. Nada, nothing, not-a-one. Oops. Well can you blame us? You've heard the song - you say it best when you say nothing at all! Besides everyone knows Ronan - TV presenter, singer, father, future President of Ireland - is so darn clever, he could think of better questions himself. And answer them. Do everything basically. Anyway keep your voice down. Ronan's in the middle of an interview... Flying Solo

* an article from CapitalFM's website (thanx a lot to Helen Dearden DeardenHD@cardiff.ac.uk for the information) Ronan speaks out for 'cancer awareness' Boyzone's Ronan Keating appeared on television last night on BBC's Watchdog Healthcheck to speak about the importance of Breast cancer screenings, citing his mother's death from the condition as an example of the advantage of early detection. Ronan told interviewer Angela Rippon that his mother would have more than likely survived if she had regularly attended screening sessions and that he and his family have set up a 'Marie Keating' charity to promote awareness. "If mum had maybe talked to us or had the guts in the beginning to go to the doctor and face it we definitely feel she'd be with us today," he said. The singer was referring to the fact that his mother had suspected for a year that she may have cancer for a full year before visiting a doctor, by which time it was too late as the cancer had spread to other parts of her body. The 'Marie Keating' charity has mobile units travelling around Eire, where people can have instant check-ups. On Saturday 24th July Ronan is set to appear at London's Hyde Park, along with The Spice Girls' Emma 'Baby' Bunton, Martine McCutcheon, Gabrielle and a host of others in the 'Wicked Women' concert, which will be promoting 'awareness', with all proceeds being donated to the breast cancer charity 'Breakthrough'. In other Boyzone news, band member Shane Lynch luckily escaped serious injury at the weekend when his rally car crashed into a ditch, during the Enterprise National Rally near Neath Valley in South Wales, at 100 mph. Lynch escaped unharmed. The Menswear Council has nominated Ronan Keating as one of the UK's 'Best Dressed' men, as part of their 'Dress For Success', campaign. The 22 year old star joins Johnny Vaughan, Martin Kemp, DJ Pete Tong, Manchester United footballer Dwight Yorke, Jerem Paxman and Capital FM's Chris Tarrant on the prestigious shortlist, the winner from which will be announced in London at, the menswear exhibition, MXL on August 22nd. *

* STAR IN HIS ZONE RIGHT (thanx a lot to Sarah Liptrott anamcara@currantbun.com for the information) RONAN KEATING proved there will be life after Boyzone with a storming solo debut at the Irish Fleadh Festival. Nervous Ronan won over a crowd of doubters with a moving performance. The 15-minute set was marred by technical problems but Ronan came through shining. He remained cool and professional throughtout and showed he had the potential to be a huge solo star. He told the crowd at Finsbury Park, North London: "It's weird on my own I keep looking for the four guys behind me!" Most of the crowd had come to see Van Morrison and The Pretenders, but by the end of his set Ronan had even hardened cynics singing along to Notting Hill anthem When You Say Nothing At All. Ronan looked lost in emotion as he premiered The Is Your Song, a track written for his late mum Marie. He was joined by Irish singer, Brian Kennedy for another sure fire hit, These Days. *

* SUN Article (thanx a lot to Sarah Liptrott anamcara@currantbun.com for the information) RONAN'S TRIBUTE TO TRAGIC MUM BOYZONE star Ronan Keating has written a moving song dedicated to his mother Marie, who died of cancer last year.He is putting This Is Your Song on the B-side of his debut solo single,When You Say Nothing At All.The millionaire singer makes his first solo performance this afternoon at the Fleadh Festival in Finsbury Park, North London. He is set to perform both songs in front of thousands. Ronan, who became a father to Jack four months ago, said: "I'm really looking forward to performing. It will be weird not having the boys on stage with me but it will be exciting all the same." The second verse of the tribute to his mother says: So we'll try and go on Loving all that we knew. Through the hardest of times You put on a show. You made us stand tall When all around us would fall. Even when you were low You believed you could fly. The line "You believed you could fly" is a reference to Marie's favourite song by American singer R Kelly. Ronan's mum used yto listen to it while doing her cleaning. The moving chorus includes: And one day we'll all sing alone, 'Cause this is your song, I wrote it for you, It won't take all day, just a minute or two. You were my friend, walked you to the end. Ronan told me: "I think about my mother everyday. But I've got my own family with my wife Yvonne and have to be strong."He and the rest of Boyzone recently finished sell-out UK and european tours. |

* People Article (thanx a lot to Sarah Liptrott anamcara@currantbun.com for the information) POP STARS FURY AS DI FUND GETS ZERO FROM GIG It's still waiting for £100,000 - 18 months later POP SUPERSTARS who performed for free to raise £100,000 cash for Princess Diana's charity were stunned yesterday to discover that not ONE PENNY has been handed over. The devastating news comes EIGHTEEN MONTHS after the £25-a-head concert for 6,000 fans. The glittering line up included teen band sensation Boyzone, pop divas All Saints and former Take That stars Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow. And hopes of teh Diana Princess of Wales memorial fund ever seeing any of the cash were shattered when the organiser - conterversial impresario Rod Gnner - confessed the gig made a £10,000 LOSS. Last night Gary Barlow said: "It is a great shame that this has happened. We were all more then happy to give our services free for an important cause."ANd a spokesman for Boyzone added: "They are all very disappointed. This was a major event that Boyzone were happy to lend their support to. The idea was to make money for a great cause and it appears that this isn't now the case." |
