TVGLive2:
Welcome Scotty! Thanks for coming tonight!
TvgBBVD:
Hello everybody...my pleasure to be here
Question:
how did you come up with the name 4 your cd?
TvgBBVD:
The new cd was definitely a departure. The first was a party recordwe
wanted this one to be a personal record. After looking at the experiences
we had we thought it would be an interesting title as it could kind of
go both ways. It is ironic.
Question:
How was it playing at the ESPY's last night?
TvgBBVD:
It was incredible. If you could imagine Tiger woods Jerry Rice
Michael Jordan Wayne
Gretzky Charles Barkley all looking at you it was pretty
surreal and unbelievable.
I Think I was less nervous playing for the President of
the US.
Question: have
you always been interested in swing, and how did you become
interested?
TvgBBVD:
Yes always interested in swing since a little boy. Started playing
trumpet in elementary
school. Just as big of a fan of every kind of music from rap to punk...It
was so much fun and felt so natural doing the swing music. We got
together because we were all friends in the neighborhood
Question:
when is the new tour schedule coming out?
TvgBBVD:
By the middle of March. We plan to go out from the end of March
through the rest of
the year. We had been on the road pretty much for the past 7 years.
We went back to the studio to record and went back out on the road 3 months
later and back to the studio and I was feeling a bit burnt out. just
needed to recharge my batteries to give the best show!
Question:
whose music had the biggest influence on your music?
TvgBBVD:
I would say my absolute biggest influence would be The Beatles.
As of recently, Danny
Elfman and I really like Beck and Tom Waite, Elvis Costello
The Beatles taught
me though that melody is the most important piece of every song.
Question:
How long did it take to do this latest album?
TvgBBVD:
I started writing it in May and finished it the first week of August.
We played over 286 days from 98-99. That's a lot of touring...came
after 6 straight years on road. Our first independent record, self
titled came out in 94 and This Beautiful Life is our fourth. Our
second was our holiday lp, our swingers soundtrack and now our current
one.
Question:
You are all California boys and it has been mentioned that many of
you love to surf. Any of you NOT surf?
(I asked this one!)
TvgBBVD:
there are only 4 of the 7 that are surfers. all but 2 skateboard.
Question:
What do you think has been the worst recent trend in pop music and
why?
TvgBBVD:
I don't know as far as if I would say worst. All music is good
music if it makes
people feel good. Im not a big fan of the boy band, Britney Spears
thing. I more of a fan of those that write for themselves.
It seems a
little more corpoarate
now. They are gearing towards building trends and the electic artists
are falling by the wayside. its a little of a feeling of a generation
gap. Unfortunately in my opinion music suffers because of the business
aspect of the biz.
Beck noted that the Beatles were a boy band and maybe just
maybe one of these
boy bands will become the next great one - Hansen for
example.
Question:
Who is the alpha male of the group?
TvgBBVD:
Me. They'll laugh at me but Im definitely the ballbuster
Question:
hey i was just wondering what the wierdest thing was that has
happened to you guys on stage?
TvgBBVD:
One of mine is that the first time we did Conan O'Brien we had just
played 3 months straight
and my voice was gone and it sounded horrible. We it came time to
do Jay Leno I once again lost my voice and we did an instrumental
instead. We
were asked to do Leno again and everything was going great. When
wardrobe has shined
my shoes they for some reason shined the bottom too and when I was dancing
I fell on my butt. Luckily I got to do a retake. Many guys
have fallen off the stage. Andy our baritone sax player accidentally
knocked out our sax player's tooth in Chicago. He didn't even realize
it. I think the adrenaline of the show kept him going.
TVGLive2:
Thanks Scotty! We had a great time and hope you can come back soon!
TvgBBVD:
Thank everybody for buying the new record and we'll see everyone out on
the road real soon. Take care!
