» CHAPTER TEN «

Nick dropped his mouth in shock. He quickly closed it but felt a pang of hurt. "Wha-What do you...what do you mean?" he finally managed to spit out.

"I mean, this steak isn’t done. I cannot eat this or I’ll be sick," she said giving her food a look of disgust.

"That’s all?" he said, breathing almost regularly again.

"Of course. What did you think I was going to say?" Lauren replied with a puzzled look on her perfect face.

"N-Nothing of course. I’ll get...Tye to bring you a more well-cooked steak," Nick called the waiter’s name.

Lauren beamed at him. "Why thank you Nick. That’s very sweet."

Nick melted. "You’re welcome!" he beamed back. Nick turned his head momentarily and breathed a sweet sigh of relief. If she had said what he thought she was gonna say...there’s no telling what could’ve happened.

AJ looked into Jessica’s beautiful blue eyes, which now glimmered with tears of happiness. That caused salty tears to trickle down from AJ’s brown eyes. AJ pulled Jessica closer to him. He knew that he loved her. It didn’t matter how much time they had spent together.

"Sometimes," AJ whispered to Jessica, "Things just happen that are so right. And you know it right from the very moment you experience them. You, Jessica, are one of those things. So don’t cry, please. ‘Cuz I love you. And I’m never gonna let you go."

He wiped a hot tear from Jessica’s eye, and kissed her. As their lips parted, Jessica reached her hand up to wipe a tear from AJ’s eye too.

Jessica kissed AJ’s lips while his sweet words pierced her heart. An overwhelming feeling of love, happiness, and safety in AJ’s arms washed over her, like a wave from the beautiful ocean they stood next to. She let AJ’s willing hands unbutton her blouse and let his lips leave a trail of kisses down her body. And when she let him take her, it was like magic, and fireworks, and every incredible feeling Jessica could think of to describe the way she felt loving AJ. Breathless after they made love in the sand and rose petals, AJ grabbed her hand and led her out to the ocean. They only went out far enough so they could let the water wash over them from time to time. And practice Jessica’s new favorite pastime...kissing underwater.

Soon Lauren and Nick had finished their dinner at the restaurant, and went to Nick’s car. He had taken the Prowler out just for Lauren. Nick drove to Lauren’s house by her directions, and they had parked in Lauren’s driveway. "Well, Nick, guess I better go in now. I had..a really great time tonight," Lauren murmured, looking into Nick’s eyes.

Nick smiled his killer grin at her. "I had a wonderful time too. I- really hope that we can do it again soon."

"So are you asking me out on another date, Nick?" Lauren asked slyly.

"Most definitely," Nick didn’t hesitate to reply.

"Well then, my answer for every other time you ask...is yes," Lauren smiled, her sea-green eyes flashing in the dark car. Nick placed his hand on her leg, then leaned over to meet her lips. ‘His kisses are more wonderful every time he places his lips on mine,’ Lauren thought. She let herself go, and wrapped her arms around his waist. She wanted this moment to last as long as possible.

Nick broke off the sweet kiss before he got too into it. He was afraid he might try to get Lauren into bed if they kept kissing the way they did, then she’d never speak to him again. "Thanks again for a great time, Nick," Lauren smiled, then got out of the car.

Nick watched her walk to her front door, turn the key, and go inside. He finally cranked up the car and went on his way. But he didn’t see Lauren, who was peeking out her window to watch Nick off.
