» CHAPTER EIGHT «

Jessica and Lauren were sitting on the couch talking. When Jessica told Lauren of things that happened the previous night, Lauren’s eyes grew wider and wider.

"Really? You did THAT? And THAT?"

Jessica couldn’t help but laugh. To tell the truth, Jessica couldn’t really comprehend all the events of the past day. She’d never been more happy, and it was all in just a day’s time. "So," Jessica said, "What happened with you and Nick last night? I saw ya’ll getting steamy in the hot tub."

Lauren smiled. "What you see is what you get. We were just talking, then we started kissing. Then I had to go, and Nick asked me out for tonight. That’s it. Not much huh?" Lauren told.

"Not much compared to me. But it looked pretty steamy, I’ll admit. So where you guys going?" Jessica asked.

"Bowling. Nick said he was gonna invite the guys and their girls along. So I guess AJ and you will be invited," Lauren said.

"Yeah, I hope. It sounds fun," Jessica commented.

"It will be. Maybe me and Nick will...venture off or something afterwards," Lauren grinned.

Jessica opened her eyes wide. "Did I just hear Lauren Adair plan something naughty? Ooooh girlfriend."

Lauren laughed. "Just joking. Don’t get your hormones in a knot."

Jessica rolled her eyes. "I’m not one to be like that." That caused them BOTH to burst into giggles.

Nick and Brian arrived at McDonald’s around 1:25. The other guys were sitting around talking when they walked over to their table. "Hey guys what’s happening?" Brian asked.

"Not much." Kevin replied, "Just talking about AJ."

AJ scowled. "You mean, you’re TRYING to talk about me, but I won’t tell you anything that happened last night. It’s 100% none of your business boys!" he defended.

Nick interrupted by saying, "So, you guys all wanna bring your girls bowling tonight? I invited Lauren so I thought we all could."

Brian jumped in. "Sounds great Nick. I’ll be there with Leighanne."

"Yeah, we’ll all go," the other guys said.

"So who are you bringing AJ?" Howie asked, not knowing that AJ had a steady girlfriend.

"Well, my woman of course, Jessica. We’re together."

"Oooh," Brian joked. "Way to go man. You really scored one."

"I hate to interrupt this," Nick said, "But can we eat? I’m starved."

While the other guys were chowing down, AJ took a moment to call Jessica from his cell phone. After she’d given him her number this morning, he couldn’t get it out of his head.

"Hello?" he heard Jessica ask.

"Hey babe," he murmured.

"Hey. What’s up?" Jessica replied.

"Not much just Jess. Just here at Mickey D’s thinking about you. Wanna go bowling tonight with the guys and their girls? And me, of course," AJ said.

Jessica smiled through the phone. "Sounds fun.."

"OK, I’ll pick you up at 8:00," he spoke.

"See you later. If I can wait that long," Jessica murmured in a teasing voice.

"I’ll be counting the minutes. Bye baby." AJ hung up. One thing taken care of, he thought to himself. Now I gotta eat something. Even if I’m only hungry for one thing right now.

Jessica pressed the button on her cellphone. "Who was that?" Lauren asked.

"It happened to be my boyfriend, my honey, my sweetie, my soulmate, my lover...all in one," she sighed wistfully.

"My, my, don’t we have the big head today? Just cuz you got some," Lauren joked.

"I didn’t mean it like that. I just feel so lucky. I know that AJ’s the one. I could feel it since the first day I saw him."

"You mean yesterday?" Lauren cracked again.

"Ha, Ha, kid all you want, but he’s mine, all mine. And it’s gonna stay that way," Jessica countered.

"Well, I’m glad you’re so happy, just don’t jump into anything too soon," Lauren said.

"Lauren, I’ve already jumped in head first and there’s no turning back!" Jessica murmured.

Lauren just shook her head at Jessica. She loved her friend, but sometimes Jessica was just a little too crazy for her. "Well, if that’s what makes you happy." she agreed.

"It is Lauren. As long as I’m with AJ, nothing can go wrong."

"Whatever..." Lauren murmured, her mind wandering. "So, what did AJ want?" she asked.

"To invite me to your date," Jessica giggled.

"Oh. Where are the guys at?" Lauren questioned.

"McDonald’s chowing down. Then they got an interview with a teenybopper mag, and after that, then we go bowling."

"All right." Lauren was already worried about what to wear. "Can I ask you another question Jess?"

"Shoot."

"Do you think Nick really likes me?"

The innocence in her voice made Jessica laugh. "Of course, silly! No, he kissed you, invited you to a private swim, kissed you again in a hot tub, and asked you out, but no, I don’t think he likes you!"

Jessica burst out in giggles at her own sarcasm. Lauren gave her a withering stare and Jess shut up.
