» CHAPTER ONE: A WISH «

Gwen sat on the couch of the small living room of her small apartment. Her 2 year old daughter, Monica, had just gone down for a quick nap and she was trying to get some rest. A CD played in the background, it was "Millennium" from the Backstreet Boys. Even as a 19 year old single mother she still had a thing for them.

Hearing them reminded Gwen of all the dreams she used to have. Dreams of stardom, of fame. All the things teenage girls dreamed of. Gwen did give it a try once, with her two closest friends Crystal and Tory. Together they were "Golden." They had almost had a record deal when Gwen got pregnant.

Gwen sat remembering Mr. Johanson, Golden's agent. She could never forget the meeting they had when she found out she was pregnant.

"Mr. Johanson, I have some news." Gwen said.

"Good or bad?"

"Sorta both."

"Well, go 'head, tell me," Mr. Johanson prompted.

"Ok... um.. I'm pregnant" Gwen said.

"Oh, I'm sorry then," he said. "I have to leave."

"Why?"

"Because there is no room in a pop group for a baby and her unwed mother, I'm sorry" he said, as he walked out the door.

They never saw him again after that. Crystal and Tory tried to go on without Gwen. But they soon found out they couldn't. Gwen was their anchor. Not only musically, as the deep voice. She was also the one that kept them all sane.

Gwen sat almost crying at her memories. She always got like that when she remembered her missed chance. The Backstreet Boys sang to her. Soothing her and comforting her in a way no one else could. She was about to lose all self-control when Monica came toddling in.

"Mommy, why you cry?" she asked.

"I'm fine baby, c'mon you can help Mommy make dinner" Gwen said.

"K Mommy!"

As Gwen cooked she left her CD playing. She couldn't help but think, as she stirred the pasta, 'This could be me. People could be buying my CD to hear me sing.' She wanted another chance at fame, but now she had Monica to think about. As she stood over the hot stove, she wished for another chance. Then laughed at herself, she never dreamed she might get it. Things like that just didn't happen to people like her.
