» CHAPTER THIRTEEN: KATE AND KEVIN «

"You don't know how much I'm going to miss you," Kevin said. He was in the girls' tour bus with Kate. It was the day after Golden left and Kate and Kayla were leaving tomorrow.

"I don't?" Kate said. "Try me."

"Alright," Kevin said. "How much am I going to miss you?"

"Almost as much as I'm going to miss you," Kate responded.

"Good answer! But I might miss you more," Kevin argued.

"Fine, you win," Kate said. "Next time you see me, I'll be a doctor."

"Yeah, and I'll be... um... well, I'll still be Kevin."

"But, Kevy, that's why I love you!" Kate said. As soon as the words had left her mouth, she gasped and covered her mouth with her hand.

At the same time, Kevin's head snapped around, and he said, "Did you just say what I think you just said?"

"Yes."

"Did you mean it like that?"

"Yes."

"Good! I love you, too."

"We're in love?" Kate said.

"Yeah, baby, we are," Kevin replied.

"I love you, and you love me. And we're really truly in love," Kate babbled.

"Yeah, Kate, we are. Please, stop babbling."

"I'm sorry! It's just that I've never been in love before," Kate explained.

"Never? Really?" Kevin said. "You're so... perfect! I thought you would have been in love a hundred times!"

"Perfect? Kev, I hardly think I'm perfect!" Kate said.

"But you are," Kevin replied, moving closer to her.

"I think your a little objective, honey."

"Maybe I am," Kevin said, moving still closer. Then kissing her.

"I love you," Kate said returning his kiss.

"I love you, too," Kevin said, slipping off his shirt. And... Well... I think you know what happened next.

Kate woke up the next morning in Kevin's arms. She smiled at him and kissed his forehead.

"Wake up honey," Kate said.

"I'm up, I'm up," Kevin mumbled back.

"We're gunna be late."

"What?" Kevin sat straight up.

"I'm leaving today, remember? You said you'd come help me settle in," Kate reminded him.

"Right, just let me go take a shower," Kevin said. He was about to leave, when he turned, walked back to Kate, kissed her and said, "I love you."

"I love you too. Now hurry, I don't want to miss our flight." Kate went to her room, showered and packed a few last minute things. Then they left for the airport. Kevin had arranged a charter flight for them. The plane was tiny and they had time to talk.

"Kate, you know what?" Kevin asked.

"What?" Kate replied.

"I just realized I don't know old you are... or your last name for that matter."

"I'm 25, and my last name is Argote. Feel better now?"

"Yes, I do," Kevin replied.

"Good. Me too," Kate said.

A few hours later they arrived at Kate's school. She attended a small medical collage near New York City. Kevin helped Kate take her things to her dorm room, and had begun to help her unpack.

"Kate!" they heard from behind them. Kevin turned to see a dark haired girl, standing at about 5'2", with nicely tanned skin.

"Adrienne!" Kate said, going to the girl and giving her a bear hug.

"And who is this?" Adrienne asked, gesturing towards Kevin.

"This is Kevin, my boyfriend. And Kevin this is Adrienne, my roommate" Kate replied.

"I've known Kate since the first day," Adrienne said.

"Cool. Hey are you guys hungry?" Kevin asked.

"Yeah, actually, I kinda am," Kate replied.

"Ok, I'll go get something," Kevin said. He kissed her and added, "Love ya."

"So, does he know?" Adrienne asked as soon as Kevin had left.

"Know what?" Kate replied.

"What do you think!?!?! Maybe about the worst trauma of your life!"

"No, he doesn't know yet. Only two people do know. You and my cousin, Kayla. I'll tell him before he leaves."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

So the week ended and it was time for Kevin to leave. During the week, Kate had gotten totally unpacked and settled in. She told him on the way to the airport.

"Kevin, there 's something I have to tell you," Kate said.

"What is it, honey," Kevin asked, turning his concerned green eyes towards Kate.

"When I was 15, something terrible happened to me. I was raped," Kate started. As she felt Kevin's arm on her shoulders, she continued. "As a result I had a stillborn baby, I may never have more children."

"I'm so sorry," Kevin said.

"Don't apologize. Just don't bring it up again, ok?"

"OK, but if you ever need to talk, I'll be here to listen" Kevin said. "I love you." Kevin gave her a very memorable good-bye kiss.

"I love you, too," Kate responded, as Kevin jumped out of the limo, and disappeared into the airport, through the screaming fans.
