CK's DAT & CDR(and Minidisc and Video)List
Last updated: 8/31/01

Update: Ok i'm back in the country but I have very little time or resources for trading. I no longer own a DAT recorder and all of my DAT masters are with a friend. I am still taping but not as often - my current set-up is Sonic Studios DSM-6L->PA6LC2->Sharp MS-722 Minidisc. I will only accept a few trades and usually only for things I really want. Some things on this list I no longer have and other things I have aren't on this list so be patient while i try to go through everything and update it.

My CD-R Rules:

  1. I don't do analog trades - PERIOD!  CDR, DAT, MD, and Hi8/VHS ONLY.   I can cannot currently clone DAT's easily (only on special request) but I can do digital DAT->CDR conversions.  I now also accept MD's (digitally transferred of course) but cannot yet digitally clone them.
  2. If your CDR's are sourced from MP3, PLEASE TELL ME!  Also if they are sourced from analog sources.  I usually will not trade for stuff that's had analog or mp3 sources, but I will if it's something I really want.  All analog and mp3 sources are listed on my page.  Please don't lie to me about sound quality, and I won't lie to you... Be honest and tell me any flaws on the discs (not enough bass, some bass distortion, some clicks/pops here and there, etc.) and I will do the same for you.
  3. I prefer blue bottom media but it's not a big deal.  *NO MAXELL or IMATION discs!!*
  4. I will not do 2:1's or selling... Nor will I do B&P's.. Sorry, i just don't have the time..
  5. If you are from aol.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com, or any other free email program YOU HAVE TO SEND FIRST.  I've been ripped off a few times, but always by people from aol.com or hotmail.com .  If you want references for me, i have *PLENTY*
  6. **IMPORTANT  RULE**  I will only trade CDR/MD copies of my DAT masters with other filmers/tapers.. All others, we'll have to discuss some other form of transaction (2 of your shows for one of mine, etc..)  Sorry, but if you want to get good shows, you should invest in some equipment.
  7. Gradings: I tend to rate my masters harsher then other shows in my collection.  Many people i have traded my masters to have actually graded them higher than I have.  I try to only trade for the best quality but as always, quality is quite subjective.
DAT Rules:
  1. I prefer to RECEIVE DAT's rather than CDR's if both are availible, but I will accept CDR's.
  2. I prefer to SEND CDR's rather than DAT's, because most of my DAT's I have transferred to CDR already and it's much easier to copy.
  3. DAT clones are made: D7->DATport->MidimanCo2->computer->DATport->MidimanCo2->D7.  Thus they have SCMS and will not allow another digital copy unless you have equipment that defeats SCMS!  This also takes a long time which is why I prefer to trade CDR copies of my DAT's instead of DAT clones.
  4. No B&P or Selling.. Also if I see you selling one of my DAT's or a CDR copy of one of my DATmasters, I will make sure everyone knows you are a bad trader. :)

Do you tape or films shows yourself (in any medium)?  I run a private mailing list for Tapers & Filmers only to hook up.  Conversation on the list includes requests for shows, requests for tapers/filmers to do certain shows, discussions on equipment, mic placement, stealthing techniques, security @ clubs, etc.. We have about 85 members from around the US and around the world.   Email me for more info if you would like to join, or check out more information at:  http://www.egroups.com/group/Tapers-Filmers

Equipment:
All shows taped between 3/16/99 and 2/24/00 taped using Sound Professionals Premium Cardiod mics (AT853 capsules) -> bass roll-off battery box -> Sony D7 DAT.
All shows taped from 4/3/00 and 8/31/00 were taped using Sonic Studios DSM-6L's->PA6LC2 battery box w/ roll off-> Sony D7 DAT.
Digital DAT->CDR transfers are made using D7->Coresound 7-pin-to-coax -> DATport -> Panasonic 7502B CDR.
All shows taped from 8/31/00 onwards are taped using Sonic Studios DSM-6L's->PA6LC2 battery box w/ roll off-> Sharp MS-722 Minidisc.

Shows I will be taping soon:
Just because it's on this list doesn't mean I will for sure tape it and the fact that a show is not on this list doesn't mean I won't be taping it. :)  This is just a little sneak peak at what I think I will be taping coming up.

Tool - 9/6/01 - Xcel Energy Center (yes i already have tickets!)
System of a Down/Slipknot/Rammstein - 9/15/01 - Xcel Energy Center (SoAD or Fantomas that night? I don't know yet)
Fantomas - 9/15/01 - The Quest Club
Darren Emerson - 9/26/01 - The Quest Club (might just dance to this one and not tape)
Death Cab for Cutie - 10/17/01 - First Avenue
Orbital - 10/18/01 - The Quest Club (HELL YES!)
New Found Glory - 11/6/01 - The Quest Club

Looking to getting into the taping world?  Regardless of what kind of recorder you get, I HIGHLY recommend Sound Professinals mics.  They sell a variety of mics for just about any taping situation you could encounter.  They also sell all sorts of accessories for those who do live recordings and otherwise.  I use their Premium Cardiods (AT853's) with Cardiod capsules and their selectable-bass roll-off box.  Also, the owner Chris is extremely nice.  They have the best customer service of any electronics company i know.. Check them out @ http://www.soundprofessionals.com

If you're looking to upgrade from Sound Professionals or if you have the money, I highly suggest you check out Sonic Studios DSM-6L or DSM-6EL's.  They provide an even greater sound than SP Premium Cardiods, but are about twice the cost.  But as in anything in this world, you get what you pay for and they are excellent mics!  Check them out @ http://www.sonicstudios.com

If you represent an artist/artists or a record company that wants me to remove your band from this list, I will gladly do so: just email me!

At this time, I cannot dub videos at all!  It is possible I could find someone to dub these for me if you have something I REALLY want.
If I do end up trading, the rules are 2 CDR's for one Video, or 1 DAT for 1 Video.

Shows that I have in MP3 only (but can transfer to CDR if needed)

Quick MP3 Rules:

  1. I will NOT transfer any shows to MP3 to trade.  DAT and CDR traders worried about this, you have NO need to worry...  I rarely trade MP3's - usually only do DJ sets in mp3, and I refuse to transfer anything off the rest of my list into Mp3 that I don't already have in that format.
  2. I will rarely do MP3 trades.  If we do, i'd prefer to do it over the internet as I have a fairly fast DSL connection.
  3. I do not want to do MP3 trades involving commercial albums, just live and unreleased.
