~PPU Contests~
A contest held on February 29, 2000 found PPU members coming up with their best attempts at creativity by writing our own limericks. The limericks had to be made up of the titles of OLP's songs.
The winners were announced on March 3, 2000. They won:
1) A signed "World's a Blister" tour promo poster
2) A T-shirt
3) A signed single
4) A Studio Equipment Kit that included a drumskin, drumsticks, and a bass tube.
~Odds and Ends~
is (iz) 3rd per. sing. present tense of BE.
anybody 1.(pron) and person 2.(n) a person of importance
home (houm) 1.(n) the private living quarters of a person or family.
(Oxford Dictionary)
Jamie Edwards (Keyboardist, Guitarist) was once a church organist, and also a member of the "Blue Man Group".
The short films recently shown on OLP's latest tour (World's a Blister) were shot in August 1999. They are: The Metronome (Mike), Your Wheel (Duncan), Benjamin Frawley (Jeremy) and A Doctor, A Solider, A Priest (Raine).
The photo shoot for Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch were done on Staten Island. They were done with the band moving because they voiced their displeasure with still photo shoots.
The upcoming video for Thief was shot on top of a roof in Toronto, behind the "No Frills" store on Bloor and Sherbourne. Apparently, the band is sitting on a bench, and it's raineing in slow motion...the rain was created using a sprinkler, and Raine contracted a sore throat and ear infection from this video shoot.
OLP's 'Starseed' was featured on a 1995 music compilation CD named "Monster Truck Classics".
Some recording for OLP's disc "Spiritual Machines" was done in Avatar studios in NYC. Disc expected in Dec '00.
During the SS 2000 tour, OLP had a virus going around, which started with Mike and spread to Duncan, Jamie, and the radio guy who was touring with them. Mike termed it the "Our Lady Plague".
~Quotes~
Arnold Lanni (on Carnival)
"We sent Duncan and Jeremy out with some portable DAT machines. They went everywhere for a couple of days, from airports and hotel lobbies--just to get as many different sounds as possinle. They brought it in, we assembled it all and towards the end, Mike put some on his computer. I put some on my computer, and we assembled it and just flew it into the recording. We also had other things. The next door neighbor at my studio operates a machine stop, so one day I sent Mike over to tape this huge machine punching a hole through metal, and we slowed it down and you hear it in every verse just underneath the snare."
Raine
(On Lying Awake)"It's about Benny Henn...he's a greedy thief...tries to con people through religion...has got some very interesting silver hair...anyway...it's about the day he's about to die...looking into his eyes and seeing if all the propaganda that he told people...if he actually believes in himself."
"I've been able to do all those things I used to hear in my head when I was beginning in music...which tends to be more like those female singers with acrobatic voices. I've been able to implement that more on this record, so hopefully they'll keep happening as I get better as a singer."
Jeremy: "...and slowly turn into a woman."
Mike
"You can be destructive without being malicious if you're clumsy."
"Raine has been writing very prolifically. He has a case of writer's diarrhea."
"Don't blame the chair. It's being the best chair it can be."
"Raine is a little less gung ho about dying than I am. Bring it on. I can't share my optimism, and it would be foolish not to."
"I am the webgeek."
"It looks so cool it's not funny."
"Simple statement difficult task."
