...TO KNOCK US DOWN AGAIN

"At least we're not playing with Our Lady Piss. I know that they're popular in Canada, but that's one bad band. Our Lady Piss are to rock 'n' roll what Huey Lewis and the News were to music in the '80's -- and the singers both look the same." ~ Green Day's Tre Cool with his views on Our Lady Peace and Edgefest '98

We here at Julia's Temptation don't want to turn people off Green Day, but we just don't understand why artists cannot appreciate each other's music. Of all people, musicians should understand the hard work and time that goes into making a career and expressing themselves. It must take a massive amount of courage to stand in front of thousands of people and reveal your heart and soul to them, and still know that while you are standing there, everybody is passing judgement on you as a person and as an entertainer. We know that Green Day does this too, but they must understand that everything you say reflects on you and comes back to you. It makes for harder critics and makes more enemies. As for us, we'll take some advice from Tre: "People are going to think what they wanna think and that's fine. Let the rest of them get on with their own lives. You can't defend making music."

"In Canada's case, a lot of bands sound like Our Lady Peace. Our Lady Peace sounds an awful lot like the Pumpkins to me... ...more power to them. They're imitating us third generation. Even better." ~ Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins

"We're still looking for Our Lady Peace's phone number. We haven't got it yet, but we're going to call them up and make friends with them, tell them thanks a lot for keeping our old music alive." ~ Billy Corgan when asked about bands ripping them off

"We're in a position now where you've got bands imitating old Pumpkins styles. You have a good Canadian band like Our Lady Peace who are basically doing a really good Siamese Dream imitation. I like them and I'm flattered. But at the same time, it's bizarre, like you're competing against shadows of your past -- old versions and imitations of me." ~ Billy Corgan

Well, once again, we aren't trying to put down the Pumpkins, but are we the only three people in this world who don't think OLP sounds like them? Maybe we haven't heard enough of the Pumpkins' songs. As for the other Canadian bands, we have to wonder if Mr.Corgan has heard of The Tea Party, Leahy, The Tragically Hip, Sloan, Econoline Crush, Captain Tractor, or Moist. Sorry Mr.Corgan, Canada doesn't revolve around you.
