OLP Still Going Strong

Right off the bat I want to say that I'm a little biased when it comes to this group. OLP is one of my favorite groups. I have been following them since 1995 with their debut album, Naveed, and their 2nd record, Clumsy, is one of my favorite albums ever. They are one of the only groups that I can just pop in any of their CD’s and play it all the way through without skipping tracks.

The Canadian quartet’s fourth album shows that the group’s songwriting abilities are slowly maturing over the years. Raine Maida’s high-pitched vocals speak of injustices and artificial intelligence that are based off of a book by Ray Kurzweil with excerpts tossed in between tracks. There is even a hidden track that has R.K. speaking with a robotic character from the book named Molly.

Fans of OLP will be happy to see that the band has not strayed far from what made them popular in the first place. The tone and style of the record is very similar to their past albums. It’s good to see a veteran group that has not sold out to make only radio friendly songs to ensure the big bucks. The first single “Life” (which I have yet to hear on the radio) is a fantastic song that reminds me of their Clumsy days. Other great songs like “Right Behind You”, “Made to Heal”, and “Everyone’s a Junkie” show that OLP has not lost their touch and plan on staying strong for a long time. Fans should definitely pick it up and those who have no clue who they are should check it out to see what they are missing. A must buy.
