"AND NOT HAVE A CARE
IN THE WORLD"
by Daryl G. Kruse
I'd like to fly
In yonder sky
With tassled wings
of pretty things
And climb up hills
With flowered frills
And not have a care in the world!
If I could kneel
on some boat's keel
I'd make a wish
To catch some fish
Or maybe wait
For bigger bait
And not have a care in the world!
I'll fly some kites
With brilliant lights
I'd give a poke
To tell a joke
Then run and play
On Santa's sleigh
And not have a care in the world!
I'd hide and peek
And be a sneak
Or sift my hands
Through soft, warm sands
And wiggle my ears
To calm my fears
And not have a care in the world!
I'd like to clown
Around downtown
Or visit trees
With bumblebees
I'd hold the moon
With a silver spoon
And not have a care in the world!
I'd like to see
A gumball tree
Or milk a cow
If I knew how
Or maybe float
A billy goat
And not have a care in the world!
I'd like to spin
A rolling pin
And try to bake
A pigeon cake
And I would lose
My purple shoes
And not have a care in the world!
I wish my bed
Could taste like bread
And then I'd eat
Some pickled feet
And go to sleep
On top of sheep
And not have a care in the world!
I'd throw a ball
Right through a wall
Then patch the hole
With pitch-black coal
And stretch a band
Around my hand
And not have a care in the world!
I'd fill my pants
With silver ants
And shine my shoes
With sticky goos
And then I'd laugh
And hug a calf
And not have a care in the world!
If you were me
You'd go to sea
And sail a yacht
But not a lot
Then head on home
And read this poem
And not have a care in the world!
It's awfully nice
To skate on ice
Unless you fell
Into a well
And broke a bone
On an ice cream cone
And not have a care in the world!
I'd like to climb
A nursery rhyme
And see how Jack
And Jill get back
Then telephone
My funny bone
And not have a care in the world!
If I could paint
I'd paint what ain't
I'd brush the air
Just here and there
And paint just one
And then be done
And not have a care in the world!
Don't think me bad
Or somewhat mad
I'm just a boy
Who likes to toy
With silly ways
On sunny days
And not have a care in the world!
