I began my martial arts training in 1972, under Sensei Roy Thomalson, of Shorin Ryu Matsumura. Sensei Thomalson studied under Sensei Kise Fusei. I am very grateful to Sensei Thomalson for his instruction in the art. In 1978, I was certified by the Unites States Karate Association as a National Certified Police Self- Defense Instructor. Over the past year I have been under the instruction of Sensei Charles Garrett II, a great person and instructor that shares with others, the way of Sensei Soken. I received my YonDan from Sensei Garrett, in the Okianwan Shorinryu Matsumura Orthodox Karate-Do system.
