Bookmarks

These are some of the bookmarks to sites which some of you are familiar and perhaps are not too familiar with. The obvious ommition are to the common search engines (i.e. Yahoo, Altavista, etc), which I think by now most of you would already have an idea where to look. I have also included a few words to describe why the sites are especially good.

Music stuff

Harmony Central: this site is devoted to musicians especially to guitarist. Highlights include the comments from readers regarding certain gear that they have purchased; so this could be a good place to surf into before you spend a considerable amount of cash on that guitar, amp or effects.

Musician Store: a place to buy lots of music stuff, which includes strings, effect and books. This is my personal favourite since they actually ship it here to Singapore all the way from the USA, and the prices are not too bad, assuming you buy a lot.

AudioFile and A/V Homepage: I think that this is probably one of the best sites I know on Audio equipment, comparing to other magazine sites. And it loads real fast, too, considering it's from my home country - Malaysia. No, I'm not biased, this really is one of the best sites I know on high fidelity toys. Even better, now it has a section on musical instruments.

ActiveBass.com: Well, since I started playing the bass guitar, this website has been my personal favourite, esp. for the bass lessons from beginner to advanced. Lots of tablature, articles and interviews with luthiers and players.

Christian stuff

Faith Community Baptist Church: the website from the church I am a member of. I bookmarked this site because the church actually posted their cell-program in the Cell-resources page of which you can download. Highly recommended because they do an excellent job of promoting the 4Ws (welcome, worship, word, works) in their cell-groups.

Antioch: Singapore is said to be the Antioch of the region and this page basically links up all the churches which have websites. Excellent effort, and a great page to go to, if you wish to check up on the churches in Singapore or even to find out the address should you wish to visit any one of them.

Wyatt Archaelogical Research: this site actually details the archaelogical findings of Ronald E. Wyatt, who claims to have found, among other things Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, and the most spectacular yet, the Ark of the Covenant. Have to read it to believe it...go check it out.

Heartlight: it is an online magazine that contains daily devotionals, articles, art, music, just about everything you need to encourage you in your Christian walk.

Food stuff

Singapore Unofficial Foodpage: what can I say? I enjoy eating and this site offers suggestions on where to go for the best meal. You can be assured that you'll never be at a loss on where your next meal will be. Mmm, what time 'til my next meal?

Makansutra: as in "Kama Sutra", get it? this site, hosted by the photographer/comedian/food-journalist K.F. Seetoh, has spawned an excellent TV program and gives an objective view on the food scene in Singapore.

Adventure stuff

Outdoor.E1000.com: as the name suggests, outdoor adventures is the theme for this website. Stuff they offer include backpacking, scubadiving, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, skydiving, 4x4 adventures, et cetera. One more note, since it's based in Malaysia, the prices are actually quite affordable.

Paintball: ah, paintball. So far, there's only one place in Singapore that you can try out this sport. Excellent fun - you basically dress up in some protective gear and then you are given a gun and you start shooting. The location is at Orchid Country Club, Yishun; so if you have a group of people who wishes to have lots of adrenalin-pumping fun, this is it!

Scuba stuff

Vincent Dive Center: one of the better companies to dive with, Vincent offers liveaboard trips to the Malaysian islands aboard their flagship vessel, MV Vincent. Excellent service, staff, and food makes this one of the better deals in the region.

SDA Dive travel: the place to go if you wanted to dive somewhere lese other than Malaysia (and only if Vincent is not going there). This shop offers dive trips to the more exotic places like the Red Sea, Yap, and Papua New Guinea, among other places.

Rodale's Scuba Diving: excellent place to get information on just about anything in the sport of scuba diving - gear reviews, articles, underwater photography and lots more.

Asian Diver: in case you didn't know, this is the online version of the magazine with the same name. Lots of articles on scuba and stuff.

Miscellaneous stuff

Epinions.com: now this is one interesting webpage. I originally surfed into this website for reviews on electrical appliances - found it through a search engine. To my delight, it also has reviews on lots of other stuff including travels, PC equipment, and lots more. Sorta like a Yahoo for reviews.

Straits Times: if you're like me, either too cheapskate to spend $1 on a daily newspaper, or too busy after work to read, you'll have to bookmark this site. It's the Web-version of the Straits Times, the most popular English newspaper in Singapore. It has everything the printed version has and more (including Cybernews)...everything, except maybe what's on TV.

Fundsupermart: the motto "more money, less stress" basically sums up what this website is all about - unit trusts. It offers good advice and information on what unit trusts are all about, what to buy, and what's going on in the Singapore/global markets.

SISTIC: the place to get tickets to events in Singapore. Frankly, I use this page mainly as an information page rather than geting tickets, I would rather go to the counter to buy since I can then choose my seats. So, usually I will surf here, find the event I wish to attend, find out how much tickets are, and then buy them on my way home.

Movies-Online: ah, movies - Singapore's favourite pastime for the week-ends. This is used to gauge whether a movie is worth my $7 or if I should just wait for the VCD to be released, or if I should not even watch it at all.
