The cross in the picture was hung by Fr Hans Williet and myself in 1966. We took the cross from Kuching and then drove to the village. The statue of Jesus on the cross was made from porcelain, so it was wrapped in woollen blanket to cushion it for the bumby journey. The bundled cross was then placed at the back seat of the car. We stopped for a drink at Bau and parked the car near a coffee shop. In no time there were a lot of curious people peering through the window. They all thought that the bundled cross was a dead body!
