You addresses how dumb it is for people to like bands that
they like for the lyrics sake.. the vocals. This is the definiton of pop/rock
music. Yes the music would sound empty in many cases with out the singing..
but that's because the singing is the lead. And when there is no singing,
decent bands do solo's etc to fill in for it, and make it complete. I'm
not necessarily saying that I think it's a good way to have it set up or
anything, but I'm just pointing out that singing defines pop/rock music,
so it is unfair to attack that aspect of the music.
Yeah I know what you're saying about
the lyrics thing, and I agree with you. My point was basically what
your point is, maybe I just didn't make it clear since I was ranting.
I was saying that I think it's a shame that to most people, "music" means
pop music, which is based on lyrics as you said, and not what I consider
to be the real intent of music, which is communication without words.
Of course, the usual exceptions apply: I'm not saying that pop music
is worthless, obviously I like a lot of it too. I'm just saying its
a shame that a lot of people ONLY listen to bands and pop music, which
isn't truly "pure" music. know what I mean? So yeah, lyrics define
pop music, and I'm not really attacking that, I'm attacking the ignorance
certain people have of the other worlds of music.
