Youma Morgue
Morgue, the outgoing, party-loving youma...  ^_^;;;

Name: Morgue/Morga
Note: Phonetically, the name should be Morga, but Studio Chikashitsu subbed her as Morgue, so that's what I'm using.

Appears In: Episode 1, “Crybaby Usagi’s Beautiful Transformation”

Physical Appearance: She has brown hair, black pitted yellow eyes, and a rather flat nose. Her skin is dusty brown and gives the impression of being dried and stretched and a bit like wood. On her forehead is an Indian-red splotch, possibly a scar, though it could very well be a natural trait (who can tell with these youma?). In this episode, she wears a long black dress, with ragged short sleeves. The dress is quite low cut, but never fear, for unlike the great majority of female youma, she seems relatively flat chested.

Like most of Jadeite’s youma, Morgue looks just as disturbing as a scary monster should (unlike the youma not belonging to Jadeite plus the cardians, droids, daimon, lemures, and phages, the majority of whom tend to look cute, too human, and/or simply not as frightening as they should).

Powers: Disguise – disguises herself as Mrs. Osaka.
Telepathy – communicates with Jadeite on her progress while in OSA*P
Mind Control – converts the crowd of fallen victims into compliant, Sailormoon-attacking zombies
Levitation – levitates over the crowd of zombies

Distinguishing Characteristics: Morgue has a very flexible body, or at least neck, as she turned her neck one hundred and eighty degrees at one point. Related is her ability to stretch her limbs an uncanny length, as when she stretched her arm quite a distance in a failed attempt to grab Sailormoon.

Role in the Episode: Morgue is a youma under Jadeite’s command. In the last episode of her life, she attracted victims from whom Jadeite could drain energy. This she did by posing as Osaka Naru’s mother (she tied the real one up and left her in the basement) and taking control of Mrs. Osaka’s jewelry store, OSA*P. The youma held a special bargain sale, encouraging people to come in and try on the jewelry, the jewelry being the means through which Jadeite drained human energy. After the customers began falling unconscious all over the floor, Morgue revealed herself to a shocked Naru and attempted to choke her to death.

Unluckily for this youma, Sailormoon, with the help of Tuxedo Kamen, put an end to Morgue. Had her body not been turned to dust, it could have gone to the Dark Kingdom morgue, if there is one (sorry for the lame pun, but I couldn’t resist). With Morgue’s untimely death, the energy Jadeite was collecting vanished and their combined efforts went to waste.

In essence, Morgue’s role in this episode was to bring out the energy of “stupid humans bewitched by jewels”, as Jadeite put it.

Commentary: Morgue was quite convincing at her job. Her disguise as Naru’s mother was so flawless that until people started falling over, even Naru didn’t suspect that the woman calling herself Mrs. Osaka was an imposter (although Naru did find Morgue’s behavior somewhat uncharacteristic of her mother). Furthermore, Morgue attracted quite a number of people to the jewelry store, very likely making many sales in her brief time running OSA*P. She even marked a 500,000 yen diamond ring down to 30,000 yen. It would be interesting to see how much money Mrs. Osaka lost this episode with Morgue setting such outrageously low prices on the jewelry… In any case, Morgue put on an undeniably spirited show as Naru’s mother, so much so that at one point, Naru comments, “Mama’s really getting into this.”

Manga: Morgue is one of the few youma who also appears in the manga version of Sailormoon. Though unnamed, she is undoubtedly the monster in Act 1 of the manga, for she looks fairly similar and plays the same role, right down to leaving Naru’s mom in the basement.
