"One of the most original sagas ever created"

Well, that is my review and I'm sticking with it. Anyway Robotech isn't just an ordinary anime. It is one of the most original ones. I don't know how old Transformers is but I'm betting Robotech is one of the earliest series created dealing with giant robots that transform. The first series of giant robots was Gigantor and it was on black and white. I think it was an early concept for Ironman 28 FX. I'm also pretty sure that the first transformable robot was Danguard Ace.
Overview of the story
First Generation (also known as Macross
Saga I think)
The story begins in the year 1999 when
a gigantic ship crash lands on Earth. At that point the Earth is having a war. When the
people notice the ship they call a cease fire. Scientists start working on the ship trying
to understand and reproduce the technology called Robotechnology. On the year 2009 the
Ship, the SDF-1, is ready to go up into space. At this point the main character shows up.
His name is Rick Hunter. He gets trap in an defense from an attack which is hosted by the
Zentrody; they are huge monsters that resemble humans and have no females. From there on
Rick's life goes haywire because the only knowledge he has to control a verytech (the
transforming planes) he needs to use it to rescue a girl named (this is just a guess at
how her name is spelled) Mei Mai. Right after another attack Captain Global, in charge of
the giant ship, commands to do a fold operation which is a move of the ship from one place
to another in seconds. The problem is that Macross Island and the city together with Rick
and Mei Mai trapped aboard a verytech are transported as well, onto Pluto's orbit. So
Macross people rebuild the city inside the SDF-1 (which is destroyed each time the ship
goes under a modular transformation). From there the story goes on about Rick's love life,
imminent attacks of the Zentrody, and Mei Mai's view of Rick as she becomes a famous
singer. At the end ( if I remember right) Rick marry's Lisa which was the officer second
in command to Captain Global aboard the SDF-1 and Rick becomes an admiral taking the place
of Captain Global.
