Mom and Dad Know Best

Edge lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He was thinking about what Edward had said. He was right. He couldn't lose Rydia. It would mean misery for the rest of his life. But what if she didn't want him? He treated her abominably. He wouldn't blame her if she never spoke to him again. Unable to resist any longer, he cried. Edge cried harder than he had ever cried before. Desperately needing a mentor and friend he shouted, "Oh Father, I really wish you were here!"

Thoughts of his parents only made him cry harder. Life sucked. He lost his mom, his dad, and now he was pretty sure he had lost the woman he loved too. He sat up, expecting to see his window, but instead there were two creatures in his path of vision. Feeling foolish, he quickly dried his tears to see who or what was standing there.

"Mom! Dad!" he shouted. Not even thinking twice about how they got there, he ran and grabbed the grotesque monsters he recognized as his parents. "Oh, help me. Please help me!"

Queen Eblan looked sadly at her son. She reached a tentacle toward Edge's face and wiped away a lone tear. "We sensed your loneliness, son. But it wasn't until Asura contacted us from the overworld that we could understand."

"Queen Asura?" Edge perked at the name. "Why is she here? What does she have to do with my so called loneliness?"

Ignoring his son's negativity, King Eblan spoke, "She is here to help Rydia."

Edge quickly looked up, an expression of panic and worry crossing his face. What could be wrong with Rydia? She was perfect! He was the one with the problems. Edge opened his mouth to voice his concern, but his father quickly interrupted him.

"She is here to help you too."

"Me? Why me? I don't think she even likes me!" Edge was in total shock.

"But she loves her daughter," intercepted Queen Eblan, "And your chamberlain cares about you. He has been helping Asura set things right for both of you." Looking at her son's handsome face, she said, "Honey, Rydia is in love with you, as you obviously are with her. You have hurt her though. She is very upset, but we all know how stubborn she can be." Edge smiled. Her feisty spirit had delighted him on many occasions. Often he would pick on her just to see her turn red in the face. She couldn't be outdone. She would return his insult or tease but with ten times the bite in it!

King Eblan's voice brought Edge back to the present. "Son, Rydia is going to be in Kaipo tomorrow afternoon. She received a letter from a secret admirer, and she agreed to meet him there."

Clenching his fists in anger, Edge ordered, "Who is this admirer? If I find out, I will run him through with my Masamune!"

Seeing his spirit revive, his parents had new hope for their lovelorn son. The two shared a secret smile. "Edge, go to her. Only you can stop her. Tell her the truth." His father paused, finally ready to address the biggest issue of all. "Tell her that you love her."
