Naoko was born on March 15, 1967. In September 1986, she won Kodansha's 2nd New Manga Artist award with Love Call, published in the anthology magazine Nakayoshi Deluxe. In August 1991 she released the manga, Codename wa Sailor V, the story of a young girl named Aino Minako (Mina), who is the pretty soldier Sailor V, and her cat guardian, Artemis. When TV Asahi wanted to release a Sailor V anime, Naoko created a new manga called Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. Sailormoon featured a team of sailor soldiers including the original character, Sailor V. The Sailor V anime being planned was changed to Sailormoon. Other manga Naoko has created are The Cherry Project, Miss Rain, Boku no Pierce Girl, July Marmalade Birthday, Maigo no Swing, Itsumo Issho ne, Rain Kiss, Yume Miru Rainy Button, Secret na Kataomoi, Yume ja Nai no ne, and PQ Angels. She is now drawing a kinda autobiographical manga titled Princess Naoko Takeuchi's Return-to-Society Punch!! .
