Faberge, Carl
The noted jeweller who gave his name to the famous eggs. (OP)

Faberge Eggs
A number of extremely valuable items of art, made by Carl Faberge as gifts for the Russian royal family prior to the Revolution. General Orlov is replacing the genuine eggs stored in the National Fine Art Repository with near-perfect fakes, so that he can sell the real things abroad. One of the fakes falls into the hands of 009 through Octopussy's circus in East Berlin - although the discovery costs him his life, he is able to bring the egg to the British Ambassador, prompting MI6's interest. (OP)

Fabulous Dominique and the Enchanted Papillon, The
(Dominique Risbourg)
The act at the Eiffel Tower restaurant while Bond is dining with Aubergine, where a whistling girl appears to dance with butterflies - actually puppets dangling from a rod above. She is taken aback when her act is appropriated by May Day, who uses her own deadly hook-bodied butterflies to kill Aubergine. (AVTAK)

Fairbanks, Bill
The late agent 002, shot through the neck by Scaramanga in Beirut during 1969. The golden bullet was never found at the time, though Bond later discovers it - as a navel ornament worn by Saida, the cabaret girl he was with at the time. (TMWTGG)

Fairground
A famous Viennese tourist attraction, in which Bond treats Kara Milovy to rides on the rollercoaster, waltzers and dodgems, as well as bribing the operator of the ferris wheel to stop the ride while he and Kara are alone at the very top. Bond also prompts the owner of a shooting gallery to plead with him to stop playing - he's winning all the prizes. (TLD)

Fallon
(Christopher Neame)
An MI6 agent working with the undercover Hong Kong police agents in Isthmus City. His assignment is to capture Bond and see him returned to London where his unauthorised activities can be dealt with; unfortunately (or fortunately, from Bond's point of view) he is killed when Sanchez's forces assault the Hong Kong group's hideout. (LTK)

False Fingerprints
One of Q's 'little notions', a set of thin plastic films duplicating another person's fingerprints, which can be peeled off the wearer's hands after use. (DAF)

Fanning, Jim
(Douglas Wilmer)
MI6's art expert, with whom Bond is acquainted. He accompanies Bond to Sotheby's, to look for the seller of the stolen Faberge Egg. (OP)

Farmer
A Sardinian who is quietly enjoying a spot of lunch when Jaws's car comes flying out of the sky and demolishes the roof of his house. The subsequent display from the aggrieved local is quite possibly the worst acting in any Bond film! (TSWLM)

Farm, The
Kananga's crocodile and alligator farm in Louisiana, which also doubles as a cover for his heroin processing plant. A sign on the gate warns that 'Trespassers will be eaten'. After making a narrow escape from the crocodile pen, Bond releases the dangerous reptiles and sets fire to the processing plant. (LALD)

Farrel, Admiral Chuck
(Billy J Mitchell)
A Canadian naval officer, ID number 2488, in Monaco to watch the demonstration of the Tiger helicopter. He makes the mistake of choosing Xenia Onatopp (or rather, she chooses him) as a date for the night before and winds up dead - though at least he has a smile on his face. (GE)

Fashlik (?)
One of the courses in the meal Wint and Kidd bring to Bond and Tiffany in their liner suite. (DAF)

Faslaine
A major Royal Navy base in the Scottish highlands, and the operations centre for Britain's fleet of Polaris submarines. (TSWLM)

Fearing, Patricia (Pat)
(Molly Peters)
A nurse at Shrublands health farm, who specialises in massages, to Bond's delight. After Bond's 'accident' on the traction machine, she is terrified that it might cost her her job - Bond's price for silence is, inevitably, something more intimate than her usual speciality. (TB)

Fekkesh, Aziz
(Nadim Sawalha)
The man whom Bond must see before being allowed to meet with Max Kalba, the middleman in the selling of the submarine tracking system. Knowing that the Soviet government will be able to offer Kalba more money than the British, Fekkesh meets with Anya Amasova rather than Bond, but his discussion with her at the pyramids is cut short when he sees Jaws, with whom he is obviously familiar. Fekkesh attempts to hide in the catacombs around the great monuments, but Jaws finds him and takes him for a quick bite. (TSWLM)

Feldstadt US Air Force Base
The location of Octopussy's International Circus's first performance in West Germany - and also the place where General Orlov plans to detonate a 100 kiloton nuclear bomb, which would be blamed on the Americans and encourage unilateral disarmament. After this, Orlov's forces could roll across the East-West border unopposed. (OP)

Felicca
(Olga Bisera)
A lady friend of Fekkesh, whom he asks to 'entertain' Bond while he tries to arrange a deal with Anya Amasova. The entertainment is cut short when Sandor shoots her with a bullet meant for Bond. (TSWLM)

Felix Lighter
Bond's name for the radio concealed inside an undercover CIA car's cigarette lighter. He is given another lighter as a present by Felix and Della Leiter at their wedding, with the inscription 'James. Love always, Della and Felix'. Bond eventually puts the lighter to good use, by setting the gasoline-soaked Sanchez aflame. (LALD, LTK)

Fenner, John
The presidential news secretary, who refuses to comment on the explosions caused by Blofeld's laser satellite. (DAF)

Ferrara, Luigi
(John Moreno)
MI6's contact in Northern Italy, who introduces Bond to Kristatos in the hunt for Locque. Unaware that Kristatos is really Locque's employer, Ferrara pays the price for his ignorance when Locque murders him in Bond's Lotus. (FYEO)

Ferrari 355
A highly desirable, expensive and very fast Italian sports car, with which Bond still manages to keep pace in his 30 year old Aston Martin DB5 despite the driver of one example of Enzo's finest being speed-freak Xenia Onatopp. (GE)

Feyador, Colonel
(John Bowe)
An old friend of General Koskov, now the commander of a Soviet airbase in Afghanistan. He is blown to pieces in the battle with the mujahadeen, when Kamran Shah throws a grenade under the fuel truck with which Feyador is attempting to block the runway. (TLD)

Fez Man
(Frank Olegario)
An Arab who feels the blunt end of Bond's fist in a casino as he tracks down Blofeld. (DAF)

F-GDMS
Registration of the helicopter that brings Stacey Sutton to Zorin's chateau. (AVTAK)

Fillet of Soul
A chain of restaurant-cum-clubs owned by Mr Big. Although they work as legitimate businesses, they are also used to distribute heroin from San Monique. There are branches in Harlem and New Orleans, as well as most major cities across the United States. The restaurants contain secret passageways to allow people to leave unseen - or to bring unwilling guests to the proprietors. The Harlem branch has one behind a revolving booth, while in New Orleans, Bond drops through a trapdoor in the floor. (LALD)

Financial Times
A British newspaper specialising in matters monetary. Bond poses as one of its reporters to find out more about Zorin's activities in San Francisco. (AVTAK)

Fingerprint Comparator
Tiffany Case uses this large machine, hidden in a wardrobe, to compare the fingerprints on record of Peter Franks with those of the man who visits her. Luckily for 'Franks' (Bond), the machine is easily fooled by Q's fake fingerprints. (DAF)

Finger Trap
A mousetrap-like device with sharp steel teeth, which Bond keeps in a jacket pocket. A SPECTRE guard has the misfortune of being caught by it when he tries to take Bond's gun. (DAF)

Fiori Cortina
A Cortina flower shop into which Bond first ducks while trailing Melina Havelock, then later forces a motorbike-riding thug to crash into. (FYEO)

Fire Island
Jamaican island searched by Strangways and Quarrel for the source of the interference with American rockets. (DN)

Fire Extinguisher
A frequent handy spur-of-the-moment weapon for Bond. Stacey Sutton also uses one to put Scarpine out of commission. (DAF, MR, AVTAK, LTK)

First Officer
(Michael Howarth)
HMS Ranger's second-in-command, who takes over after Captain Talbot is killed and immediately leads a foolhardy mission to take the Liparus's operations room with Anglands, James, Bonsall and Purves. All five man are killed, either by machine gun fire or a flamethrower. (TSWLM)

First Sea Lord
(Graham Crowden)
The commander of the Royal Navy and Marines, and also the man who brings the bad news about the St Georges to Sir Frederick Grey. (FYEO)

Fisher, Mr
An alias used by Bond to secure a meeting with Mr Osato. He is posing as the managing director of Empire Chemicals. (YOLT)

Flamethrower
Draco's men put one of these to good use in warming up the chilly environs of Piz Gloria, by toasting its guards. Stromberg's forces defending the Liparus's operations room use another to fry the attacking British, Russian and American sailors. (OHMSS)

Flare
1: Underwater light source used by one of Largo's men as a makeshift weapon to kill Bond when he is discovered in the underwater cave containing the stolen nuclear bombs. Bond, of course, turns the weapon on its user, burning the man's face. (TB)
2: A distress device, put by Bond to more aggressive use when he fires it into the cabin of an attacking helicopter, blinding the crew and causing the aircraft to crash. (AVTAK)

Flex, Jenny
(Alison Doody)
One of Max Zorin's numerous young lady assistants. She assists him by setting fire to City Hall in order to cover up Zorin's tracks on Project Main Strike and frame Bond for the murder of Howe, but is paid back rather poorly when Zorin leaves her to drown in the flooded Main Strike mine. (AVTAK)

Flick-knife
Hidden weapon used by Quarrel. (DN)

Flight 759
One of the numerous identifiers of the Vulcan bomber hijacked by Angelo. Other callsigns include Blackjack Flight Bravo X-Ray and OBNR. (TB)

Flight 878
The code for Bond's British Airways flight to St Petersburg. (GE)

Flight 879
The code for the return flight from St Petersburg. Since Bond never takes it, that's several hundred pounds of taxpayers' money down the drain. (GE)

Floating Palace
Octopussy's hideaway, on an island in a crocodile-infested lake near Delhi. Apart from Kamal Khan (and, of course, Bond), no men are permitted on the island. (OP)

Flower Truck
Red Grant's intended getaway vehicle at the Yugoslavian border, appropriated by Bond. Bond apparently cares about its appearance, as he seems to take the time to clean off a load of dirt thrown onto the bonnet and front wing by an exploding grenade! (FRWL)

Flute, Bamboo
Musical instrument played (rather tonelessly) by Baron Samedi as he tracked Bond and Solitaire. The lack of tunefulness probably can be accounted for by the fact that the flute also contains a radio transmitter. (LALD)

Flying Palazios, The
A trapese act performing at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. (DAF)

Flying Sandpiper
The name of the hydrofoil that takes Bond and Andrea from Macau to Hong Kong. (TMWTGG)

Fool, The
The tarot card that represented Bond - until he stacked the deck. (LALD)

Foot and Mouth Disease
An unpleasant affliction that killed large numbers of livestock in England in the late 1960s. Blofeld arranged this, as a demonstration of his ability to spread crop and animal viruses around the world. (OHMSS)

Ford Cortina
The not exactly terrifying vehicle used by Jaws and a motley assortment of henchmen to chase Bond's Lotus Esprit along the Sardinian coast. Bond's cement guns blank out the car's windscreen, sending it over a cliff. (TSWLM)

Ford Mustang
Model of American sports car. Tilly Masterson drove a white 1964 model (GF); Fiona Volpe had a 1965 pale blue car (TB); Bond and Tiffany Case used a red 1971 Fastback to evade the Las Vegas sheriff's department (DAF).

Ford Thunderbird
Car used by Felix Leiter to track down Bond at Goldfinger's stud farm in Kentucky. Leiter's car was equipped with the same homing device locator screen as Bond's DB5 (GF). Largo drove a later model around Paris (TB), and Wint and Kidd took an unconscious Bond out to the desert to die in a 1971 car (DAF).

Foreman of Signals
The man in charge of the communications section of MI6, who assesses the importance of incoming signals and reports before passing them onto higher authorities. (DN)

Forsyth, Captain
A Royal Navy officer present during Bond's briefing on the disappearance of HMS Ranger at Faslaine. (TSWLM)

Fort Knox
The United States' gold depository in Kentucky. At the time Goldfinger launched Operation Grand Slam against it, it contained $15 billion of bullion. It is defended by 41,000 troops stationed nearby, as well as an electric fence. (GF)

Fowler, Mr
One of the potential bidders for the Ithacus colt at Zorin's auction. He is prepared to offer a million dollars for it. (AVTAK)

Fountain Pen
This expensive Montblanc pen is modified by Q to do other things than simply write; as well as the tip of the cap containing an earpiece that picks up signals from the bug hidden inside the Coronation Egg, a twist of the nib allows it to dispense a powerful concentrated acid, which Bond later uses to escape from his barred quarters at the Monsoon Palace. (OP)

Foxtrot Gold Sierra
The (ficticious) callsign of Draco's flight of helicopters, ostensibly Red Cross aircraft on a humanitarian mission carrying blood plasma to Italy, as they head for Piz Gloria. (OHMSS)

Francisco the Fearless
The human cannonball at Octopussy's circus, whose cannon is used to transport a nuclear bomb into Feldstadt air force base. (OP)

Franco
(Claude Carliez)
Bond's gondolier in Venice, killed by a knife-thrower who pops up from a waterborne hearse. (MR)

Franks, Peter
(Joe Robinson)
A professional diamond smuggler, whose place (and fingerprints) Bond assumes in order to uncover the worldwide diamond stockpiling organisation. Although he is taken into custody by MI6 as he attempts to leave for Amsterdam, he later escapes by killing a guard and making his way to Amsterdam. Bond intercepts him at Tiffany Case's apartment building and, after a fight in a glass-walled lift, blinds him with a fire extinguisher before throwing him from a fourth-floor landing to his death. The final indignity for Franks is that his corpse is used to smuggle the very diamonds he'd been hired to transport - their storage was, as Bond puts it, "alimentary". (DAF)

Fraser
One of Drax's drivers, whom Drax assures Bond will get him to the airport in plenty of time for his flight. (MR)

Fraser, G
One of the seamen aboard HMS Ranger. He is watching an enthralling chess game when the submarine loses electrical power due to interference from the Liparus. (TSWLM)

Frazier, Professor
(Gerald James)
A scientist who accompanies M and Q to Hong Kong to oversee the return of Gibson and his Solex. (TMWTGG)

Fred
1: (Karl Held) A CIA assistant of Maxwell at Circus Circus. (DAF)
2: Q's nickname for a luckless test dummy in his lab, whom he blows to pieces with an explosive pen. (GE)

French Jockey Club
The employers of French detective Aubergine, who hired him to determine why Zorin's racehorses were consistently beating horses with superior bloodlines. (AVTAK)

Fresh Orange Juice
A part of Bond's breakfast for two at the Palacio Hotel. (OHMSS)

Friendship Airport
Baltimore airport where Bond enters the United States aboard Goldfinger's private jet. (GF)

Fruit Stall
The traditional victim of car chases, demolished by a Bangkok driver who is spending too much time watching Bond pursue Scaramanga and not enough looking at the road ahead. (TMWTGG)

Fuel Drums
Or, in Bond's hands, impromptu mines! 007 dumps a batch of leaking drums from the back of his boat while being pursued by SPECTRE, then sets the fuel alight with a Very pistol. (FRWL)

Fujiwa, Matsu
A double agent in the Far East, who is being blackmailed by SPECTRE Number 7 to the tune of 40 million yen - all he had. (TB)

Funhouse
Part of Scaramanga's island hideout, a bizarre maze through which the assassin and those hired by Nick Nack to kill him must battle. Nick Nack controls the funhouse, to make sure that neither side has an advantage over the other. Obstacles include changing lighting, decoy projections of Scaramanga, optical illusions, leaping skeletons, animatronic dummies (with working weapons), two-way mirrors and slides. (TMWTGG)

Furnicular Railway
Not quite a monorail, but the next best thing - Sanchez has one of these oversized stairlifts at his home overlooking Isthmus City. (LTK)

F-111
American fighter-bomber stationed at Feldstadt AFB, West Germany. (OP)

F65
Registration number of the British warship from which Bond was given his 'burial at sea'. (YOLT)
