Deny the Darkness

The sword cuts down low,
severing his head cleanly,
the blood pours free,
and stains my blade,

as I stand alone on the battlefield,
I gaze into their dead eyes,
I come to the realization,
that war is not all it seems,

I try to comfort the wounded,
but find myself causing more death,
for death for some is a release,
the pain of their wounds unbearable,

I bury all the dead,
and burn their tattered armor,
I try to calm the death in my ears,
but find the song overpowering,

my final gift to the world,
is a small piece of advice,
"Give not into the bloodlust,
for war is not worth anything!"
