objective

seek a position of engineer in a multinational company utilizing my skills and experience in tool-qualification, failure analysis and troubleshooting, product design, SQC, DEE, FMEA, DFA, and project coordination.

Hewlett-Packard: june 1997 - current

awards

  • HP-Star Award: successful management of China-based ODM from concept to production for printer accessories
  • U.S. patent (pending): designed a blocker mechanism for the improvement of paper-path (pick) performance

writing systems engineer

  • designed and set up printer banks to run rolling life and user rates tests
  • troubleshoot and perform failure analysis on issues related to image quality and other failures
  • developed expertise to be the focal person for printhead-related activites
  • participated in multi-site planning reviews and teleconferences for updates on current and future improvements in product

npi/mfg lead engineer

  • setting up BOM and shopping list for prototype builds
  • conducted process/product audits for manufacturing release
  • led cost reduction and product improvement efforts
  • provided solutions and coordinated with planner on issues related to worldwide logistics
  • updated documents for submission to ISO9000
  • maintained updates and records of all changes to product via PCO

production engineer

  • qualified multi-cavity production tools to enable mass-manufacturing. These efforts include the understanding of the technical drawings and specifications, form/fit/function, design margin studies, tool modification, environmental tests and life-tests.
  • applied DEE to improve the printer transmission performance.
  • applied FMEA for several critical parts as a cost-reduction effort.
  • improved the production yield to 95% during the production line start-up by troubleshooting the issues and implementing the change on the tool and automation line. Due to the complexity of the product, the work sometimes stretches into 3 shifts/day.
  • traveled to US R&D center to learn of new printer technology and transfer the technology to Singapore to enable local production. Established strong partnerships with US engineers.
  • designed the layout of the Characterization Lab - working with a team of engineers to relocate the lab from the office to the Engineering Test Room.
  • coordinated the prototype build for the new generation HP leading-edge printer.
  • developed and helped maintain the assembly procedures for the main production line with a team of engineers to ensure conformance of ISO standards.
  • utilized CAD (Solid-Designer) to design the sheet metal housing for a mechanical torque and motion tester.
  • redesigned a fan-shroud in order to accommodate the usage of another fan of a different brand - a cost reduction effort.
  • redesigned a case part for strengthening purposes due to material change.
  • designed a tool to solve the ergonomic problems of a line operator.
  • developed various test programs, jigs, and fixtures for a high-end materials tester to measure and maintain the printers' critical product performance parameters. Also developed the test procedure, which later was used by the US R&D center.
  • reduced the direct-manufacturing cost of the printer by locating local suppliers/vendors for several imported parts.
  • solved a manpower shortage problem for printer characterization, working directly with the Production Supervisor.
  • provided technical expertise for printer outsourcing.

product design engineer: august 1995 - april 1997

  • marketed mechanical design services to various multinational and local companies specializing in electronics and household appliances.
  • utilized CAD (Euclid) to design a fast-install computer heat sink, of which patent is still pending.
  • utilized CAD (Pro-Engineer) to develop new plastic/metal casings for existing products. Followed through the entire design process - from concept (industrial design) to prototyping (rapid) to tooling and qualification to mass production.

skills

  • design of engineering experiments
  • statistical quality control
  • failure modes and effects analysis
  • geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • analytical troubleshooting
  • CAD (AutoCAD, I-DEAS (SDRC), Euclid, Pro-Engineer, Solid Designer)
  • cross-cultural communication
  • project management
  • production start-up coordination

education

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa)

  • Pi Tau Sigma - Mechanical Engineering Honorary
  • Golden Key - All Universiy Honor Society
  • Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma - Freshman Honor Society

status

  • Married with one daughter
