A series, by the author of 'Asuka Langley: Ex-poser' fame, which incorporates NGE, Slayers and Gundam Wing. Personally I only know of the latter through the work of Joyce Wakabayashi - my limited impression being that GW is popular with the ladies.

The Slayers characters have been replaced by those from the other two series. Asuka is a good stand-in for Lina - both being redheaded, bad-tempered and incredibly good at what they do though one can't escape from the irony that Megumi Hayashibara who does the voice-acting for Lina in Slayers also gives voice to Rei in NGE. Wufei's chauvinism is a good device to ensure that he and Asuka continually bicker. There are good flashes of humour - I particularly enjoyed the dig about how some people find Chinese names difficult to deal with. That's a source of frustration I'm sure Ka-Wing and myself can identify with. A very clever pun with Heero's last name as well - I hope I won't be giving too much away if I say it's got something
to do with his curse.

Technically, the prose is well constructed and the plot shows careful thought and planning. However, I must confess that the series wasn't really able to hold my interest. Firstly, not knowing much about the GW characters, I wasn't really able to identify with them or catch subtle in-jokes. I suppose this is why most xover or fusion fics tend to have smaller readerships. Secondly, the events of the story are very heavily tied to the chronology of the first Slayers tv series - which removes most of the suspense. What suspense is available is to see how the author manages to get the three anime to work together. Thirdly, well, Asuka may be a major Eva character but without Shinji, it's not really NGE. That's (sorta) the main reason why I never got beyond the first chapter of NXE.

At this point, I have to confess an interest - I'm trying to write my own NGE/Slayers fusion and it's NOT easy. My mind boggles at how Ka-Wing has managed rather decently with three series. Asuka fans should like N!SEW but it wouldn't hurt for anyone else to give this fic a try.
