I’m going to do my best to be objective, as hard as it is with this series.
To begin, the plot has no original thoughts in it whatsoever. All the jokes are recycled from other fics, namely ‘Evaless’ and the first run of ‘Imagine Normality.’ However, this series just seems to imitate them. And rather badly, I might add.
Also, if self-insertion were a crime, new character Anthony Draven would be the prime suspect, if not guilty as charged. Plus, he comes from America, with an Italian/German heritage (check the author’s name) and no original background, since that too was either ripped off or modified from other fics.
The story itself starts out with Asuka finding Shinji and Rei sneaking off for some ‘quality time.’ (the reason is never explained) Asuka, pissed, beats up the new character, who then reveals his love for her. Asuka and Rei spend the rest of the fic as ideal girlfriends, fresh from whatever wet dream they stepped out of. Also, all characterization happens with the snap of your fingers. What does that mean? There is no characterization. At all. People change in about the same time it takes to turn a corner. Actually, most changes take place in the first part. The rest of the fic has Anthony Draven going through the same thing Shinji did in the series, minus the good storytelling.
Spelling and grammar wise, I didn’t see anything too horrible. I’ve seen worse, although the author could stand to look over his writing again.
However, in the final analysis, go read something else. It’s a shame that I will never get back the time I spent reading this.
Until Instrumentality is needed again,
