PAST. What is the past, present, and future to a person who lives outside of time? Not much is known about Sailor Pluto's life... Nobody knows where she comes from or how old she is... The major thing is that she has been Sailor Pluto since the Silver Millenium and appears to be ageless.
As Sailor Pluto watches them go Luna says she once heard Queen Serenity speak of a Sailor Senshi who must remain at her post at all times. FIRST ENCOUNTER. The first time that the scouts encounter Sailor Pluto is when Chibi-Usa gets sick and the people of the Black Moon decide to capture her in her dreams. (They actually send the Grim Reaper!) Sailor Pluto tells helps them enter the dream to save her. The second time they encounter her is during the trip to the future, by way of the Time Gate (the only way-duh! Then again, how did the Black Moon Family go through the Time Gate? Was Setsuna out taking care of some business at the time? Stay tuned for... Just kidding. ^_^).
SAILOR MOON S. In Sailor Moon S, it is revealed that Sailor Pluto is actually the carrier of the third talisman: the Garnet Orb. Apparently, she is the only one who is conscious of being a carrier and the only one who knows how to separate her talisman from her heart crystal without killing herself. Her reasons for not telling the two other Outer Senshi is unclear. Then again, as keeper of the Time Gate, she holds herself against interfering with the timeline. Except for maybe a few instances. One: she was the one who sent Chibi Usa to the past. Two: she stops time during the attack against the Mugen Gakuen Academy. Thus, she dies for the first time. (Don't know how she was resurrected, though. Who would like to ask Toei?) Three: she takes Hotaru from Tomoe-sensei. (She raises Hotaru with the two other Outers. Hotaru calls her Setsuna-mama.) Four: she was adamant about Usagi's involvement with the Starlights. Of course, then again, she probably knew that the timeline demanded her presence.
MEIOU SETSUNA. Sailor Pluto starts to use the identity Meiou Setsuna when she helps raise Hotaru. She was upgraded to Super Sailor Pluto by the baby Hotaru during an attack by Neherenia's minions.
