Though I now live in the U.S. of A., I still consider the Philippines my home. It is where I was born, where my relatives reside, and where I someday wish to be buried. Anywayz, I just wanted to share with you some knowledge of my country.

Some facts about the Philippines

Nickname: Pearls of the Orient

The National Anthem: Lupang Hinirang

The Pledge of Allegiance: Panatang Makabayan

The National Flag: Divided in two horizontal strips (in peacetime, the blue on top, the red on the bottom), edged with a white triangle on the right side (the side by the pole). In the white triangle, there are three stars and a sun with eight rays. The flag was sewn by Josefina Herbosa and Marcella de Agoncillo Lorenza (Josefina's daughter).

Independence Day: June 12, 1898

National Language: Filipino/Tagalog; with English as secondary official language, though there are some 75+ other dialects in the Philippines

National Capital: Manila, in the National Capital Region (NCR)

National Hero: Jose Rizal

National Animal: Water Buffalo (Carabao/Kalabaw)

National Bird: Philippine Eagle

National Fish: Milk fish (bangus)

National Flower: Sampaguita

National Tree: Narra

National Fruit: Mango

National Leaf: Anahaw

National Dance: Tinikling
