TEARS IN HEAVEN (PART FOUR)
BY: JLALA (jlynpinay@aol.com)
Usagi and Mamoru rushed into hospital like a hurricane in all it's
fury. Nurses and Doctors threw themselves out of the way of the two.
As they found Motoki's room, they stopped and looked at each other.
He began to speak and she put a finger to his lips. She didn't wanna
talk about it, subject closed. He gazed in her eyes and knew that the
only love she held was for Motoki, only Motoki. For a moment they
communicated silently and the only thing they knew was that they
both loved Motoki. They'd never hurt him.
"Do you wanna go in first?", Usagi said finally breaking the silence.
He shook his head and she went in. Motoki's parents were about to leave
and Motoki's mother hugged Usagi tightly then began to cry. She walked
over to his bed and he smiled weakly at her.
"Hey baby", She said softly and brushed a few of his blond tendrils out
of his face.
"I guess I'm not as strong as I thought" He laughed lightly and
watched worried tears from my face. "Don't cry Usa, I'm okay"
"I was just so scared about what happen to you" Motoki pulled her
closely to his chest and she laid next to him."I love you" He
caressed her hair that was still damp from the rain.
"I love you Usagi", He answered back."I haven't given up yet, I'm gonna
keep fighting this" She looked up at him and at the sure look in his
eyes.
"Why?", She asked him."How can you be so strong?"
"Simple", Motoki answered. "For you. Everything I do is for you."

Mamoru listened to see if they had stopped talking so he could get in.
It had been over an hour. His mind raced with worried thoughts and at the
same time the feeling of guilt ran through him. Why couldn't he stop
thinking of her? Quietly he walked into the room and saw that the two
were fast asleep in each other's arms. His best friend looked so weak
but the look on his face was strong and self-assured. Usagi breathed
heavily her face resting on her lover's chest. A pain struck him in
his heart when he realized how much Usagi loved Motoki, she was devoted
to him. Mamoru knew that whatever was about to happen was just out of
sadness. He also knew that he would never betray Motoki no matter
what, he too was devoted to his best friend. Taking a blanket he covered
Usagi and left the room. Motoki opened his eyes and saw a caring look
on his face. Not just for him but for Usagi. He closed his eyes again
smiling as he fell asleep.
************************************************************************
Waking up again Motoki looked over at the blonde bundle that curled up
next to him. Her face was youthful and full of content. Beauty at it's
peak. The thought of losing her brought a pain to his heart and holding
her tighter Motoki kissed her neck. She sighed in her sleep. Looking out the window he saw that
the sun rose filling the sky with bright colors and somehow it filled
him with a sense of life. Things became clearer. He looked over at the
counter where a velvet box sat, he had shown it to his parents. The ring,
he had meant to give to Usagi. She stirred in her sleep and he put the
ring away. It only occurred to him that maybe he shouldn't be the one
to give this to her.
***********************************************************************
Walking into the room Usagi quietly placed a radio on the table in
Motoki's room. Sitting on the bed she waited for him to open his eyes
and as she did she saw how hard it was hard for each day to even
lift his eyebrows. Smiling gently he caressed her soft, angelic face.
"Hey there", She said to him."Guess what today is"
"How could I forget the day when we first kissed", he answered.
"And out on our first date", Usagi added."Remember? We went on that
picnic in the woods and it started to rain"
"We ran under this tall tree waiting for it to stop", Motoki remembered.
"You looked so beautiful with your hair wet and then it happened.
We kissed."
"Yeah, it was a good day" They sat silent for a moment remembering
the early days of their love. He seemed to slowly be leaving
her. Bit by bit. The days were short for them now. Motoki suddenly
sat up and began to walk slowly to the table."What are you doing?"
Going to the radio he turned it on looking for a good song
when he found something he liked, Motoki turned to his girlfriend
and smiled.
"May I have this dance?", Motoki asked holding out his hand. Walking
toward him she put her arms around his neck. As tightly as he could
he held on to her as she did the same. Swaying to the music Usagi
clung to him knowing that this might actually be there last dance.
This is my last dance with you
This is my only chance to do
All I could do, To let you know
that what I feel for you is real
(It's so real, real)
This is last chance for us
This is the moment I just
Cannot let end, Before I know
that there's a chance we're
more than friends
So don't let.so don't let go
Make it last all night
This is my last chance
to make you mine
I kept my feelings so deep
I kept my dreams of you and
me, Somewhere inside
Although I prayed that you
would see it in my eyes
But this is my last chance to say
What's in my heart before you fade
out of my life
And then you'll understand the way
I feel inside
So hold me, so hold me close
Cause it feels so right
This is my last chance
to make you mine
To make real, make this dream reality
So close, it hits so hard
Gonna find a way into your heart
I speak my mind, gonna open up to
you this time
I can't let you slip tonight
This is my last chance with you
This is my only chance to do
All I can to do to let you know
that what I feel for you is real
So hold me close, Just make it last
all night long
Ohh This is my last chance to make you mine
To make you mine...
It was then that she realized that he going soon. He didn't
have to tell her but she saw it in him. Somehow in the way
he carried himself, his spirit was leaving. Suddenly she was
sobbing loudly and he tried to kiss the tears away but they
fell steadily down her cheeks.
"Usagi, I don't need to tell you what you already know", He said
as he held her. Taking out the velvet box he revealed the delicate
diamond ring inside."I want you to have this" She started to slip
it on her finger but he stopped her."Don't wear on your finger"
He knew that she thought a ring would always bound together
but Motoki didn't want her to feel any obligation to him.
He wanted for someone that truly loved her like he did to put
a ring on that finger. Someone who could actually take
care of her. All he wanted was for her to be happy.
"It's beautiful Motoki", She said hushed. "I haven't given you anything.
Is there anything you want?" Her eyes were full of love and made
his own eyes water with sadness.
"I just want you to remember to me", He answered hoarsely.
********************************************************************
Another month passed and the three spent more of their time together.
For them the days, minutes and seconds were scarce. Motoki had gotten
so weak that he used a wheelchair and Mamoru sometimes had to bite his
lip so hard to keep from any tears from falling. Usagi and Motoki were
utterly devoted to one another and sometimes for long amounts of time
would stare into each other's eyes. Motoki would traced the shape of
her face trying to memorize every line, slant and dimple on her face.
Mamoru often watched them with a melancholy look in his eyes.
He was hard to comprehend what he was feeling or what he SHOULD
feel for Usagi but the most incredible feeling would wash over
him everytime he looked in her eyes. He remembered the rainy day
they had spent in her apartment, Usagi never mentioned it. It was
clear to him that she loved Motoki. Hell he loved Motoki too and
never would he deceive his friend. Sometimes Mamoru noticed Motoki
watching him intently. Did he know? He would soon get his answer.
**********************************************************************
The sun was setting slowly and the bright colors illuminated the sky.
It looked like a watercolor painting to Mamoru. They sat on the roof
of the hospital. Motoki, in his wheelchair and Mamoru in a lawn seat.
Mamoru looked at his friend and saw that little by little he was
fading away from them. His cheeks were gaunt and he was so thin. His
dark eyes filled with tears with realization that Motoki was going
soon. Their eyes met and Mamoru saw that his eyes too were filled
with melancholy tears.
"I know", He said simply. Mamoru was bewildered and suddenly it struck
him why he had always been watching him. Motoki knew who he was in love
with. He wasn't angry however, a look of understanding shone in his
eyes. Motoki patted his hand. "It's okay" These were the last words
Motoki said before he went into a coma the next day.
