TEARS IN HEAVEN (Part Nine)
BY:JLALA (jlynpinay@aol.com)
The sound of high-pitched laughter floated through Makoto's apartment
as Usagi and her friends made lunch. Or at least tried to. Makoto was
doing most of the work. After all she was the master chef, the girl
was on her way to owning a restaurant on her own. Cutting the tomato
Usagi tried hard to concentrate and not think of Mamoru. Another week
had passed since she and Mamoru had their fallout. The very thought
of their kiss made butterflies flutter in her stomach. Makoto looked
at her friend in curiosity. She looked a little out of it.
"Usa, you alright?", Makoto asked and put a hand on her shoulder. Poor
Usagi, she pretended to smile but she saw the morose look in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, I guess I'm a little distracted", Usagi said and gave them
a gentle smile. The others smiled back at her. Minako put her hand on
Usagi's.
"There's something wrong, isn't there?" Minako looked in her friend's
eyes. "You can tell us."
"Yeah lately it seems that you've been holding something in", Rei said
in a worried voice. Ami looked at her with concerned eyes. She sighed.
It was time to spill the beans.
"Okay", Usagi said and took a deep breath. "Just don't make a big deal
out of it, okay?"
"Whatever it is, I think we could handle it Usagi", Ami said reassuringly.
Usagi looked at each of them with trusting eyes.
"I kissed Mamoru", she said in a small voice.
"You what?", Minako said disbelivingly though she was actually expecting
it. It was about time! Usagi then explained the whole thing from the
roses to Mamoru walking out on her.
"I don't know what's going on with me", Usagi cried and Ami hugged her
friend. She hated to see her so down. She was like her sister.
"I don't know if this had ever occurred to you but I think you're in
love with him", Rei said and Usagi shook her head. A blush crept on her
cheeks.
"I agree. You're totally stuck on him", Minako said and Usagi stood up
pacing the room.
"I'm not!", She said and Usagi was surprised to feel the tears spring to
her eyes. Usagi sat back down. "I can't be."
"Why not?", Rei asked and her dark eyes looked lovingly at Usagi.
"I just can't", Usagi said quietly.
"Because you don't want to fall in love or because you just can't
let yourself?", Makoto said. Usagi looked up at them with tear-filled
eyes.
"I just don't know", Usagi answered.
************************************************************************
Looking out the window Usagi inhaled deeply. Her father Kenji watched
from the doorway sadly. How he hated to see her so sad. Walking up to
her, he put a hand on her shoulder.
"Honey, you okay?", He asked and she turned to him.
"Yeah dad, I'm alright", Usagi said quietly in thought. She loved
Motoki but there was something inside her that flipped when she
thought of Mamoru.
"Usagi, I know that you love Motoki but that doesn't mean you close your
heart to loving another", He said. "Loving someone else doesn't mean
you don't love Motoki or that you're betraying him in any way. You can
love someone and still be IN love"
"Then why am I so scared?", Usagi asked in a choked voice and he felt
a pain in his heart for his little girl. He had always wanted to shield
her from any pain but he wanted to see her happy. "How can I stop what
I'm feeling?"
"Give up Usagi", He said. "Give up to love."
************************************************************************
Usagi was awaken to a loud tapping noise. What the hell was that?
Looking at her clock she cursed when she realized that it was almost
Three o' clock. Suddenly she heard running and Shingo, her brother
open the door letting the light of the hallway in.
"What's going on?", Usagi asked rubbing her eyes.
"You've got to see this", Shingo said. "This will definitely wake you
up" She put on her robe and scrambled down the stairs. In the living
room her parents were looking out the window.
"What's going on?", Usagi inquired and stood in between them. To her
utter disbelief there was Mamoru on her lawn. Pitching a tent. "Oh God"
"What the hell is he doing?!", Kenji said. "He's ruining my lawn."
"I'm gonna go out and talk to him", Ikuko said but Usagi put her hand
on her mother's shoulder.
"Don't. I'm sure if we just ignore him, he'll go away", She said in
an even tone. What did he think he was doing? *BOOM* Usagi grimaced
when the sound of thunder and a sudden downpour of heavy rain began
to fall over the city. In minutes Mamoru was drenched but he stood
outside looking at Usagi who was at the window looking at him.
Worry spread over her, what if he got sick? The phone rang and
Shingo picked it up.
"It's Rei, she says to turn on the radio", He said and his mother
quickly turned it on.
"This next song is dedicated to Usagi Tsukino", The announcer said.
"The guy who called in is apparently camping out on her front lawn!"
The deejay let out a small chuckle. "Hopefully she gets the message"
With that the record began to play the soulful ballad.

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothing else
He'll trade the world
For the good thing he's found
If she's bad he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down

When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Tryin' to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way it ought to be

Well, this man loves a woman
I gave you everything I had
Tryin' to hold on to your precious love
Baby, please don't treat me bad

When a man loves a woman
Down deep in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she plays him for a fool
He's the last one to know
Lovin' eyes can't ever see

When a man loves a woman
He can do no wrong
He can never own some other girl
Yes when a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're my world

When a man loves a woman.....

The rain poured even harder on him but it didn't matter. All that matter
was her. Usagi. She watched him as he walked toward the window. Why was
he doing this? He was crazy. He could get pneumonia or the flu or...
She couldn't handle it if anyone else she loved got sick. Usagi gasped
and suddenly she knew. Putting a hand to the window she let the tears
fall from her eyes.
"I love you", She whispered.
"I'm gonna bring Mamoru some coffee", Ikuko said holding a thermos.
"No, I'll do it", She said still looking out the window. Walking to
the door she opened the door and saw that Mamoru was already waiting
for her. The two stared at one another and without a word she threw
her arms around him. The rain fell heavily but in his arms she felt
warmth. Usagi and Mamoru kissed passionately as they were soaked to
the bone.
"I love you Usako", He said sincerely. She laughed and hugged him even
tighter.
"I know", She responded with a smile.
************************************************************************
"Good thing I brought some extra clothes", Mamoru said with a laugh as
they sat on Usagi's bed.
"Are you sure you don't feel sick?", She asked and felt his forehead.
Mamoru took her hand and kissed it.
"Not at all", He answered lovingly as their lips were about to meet.
When suddenly a knock was on the door. Ikuko came in holding a towel.
"Something to dry your hair with", She said with a smile and left.
Usagi quickly got into bed trying to heat herself up quickly. Mamoru
had turned off the lights and as he got into bed he wrapped his strong
arms around her. It was weird at first but she liked it. Usagi smiled
and closed her eyes.
"I love you Mamo-chan", She mumbled as she fell into a dream-filled
sleep.
************************************************************************
The rays of dawn awoke and Usagi groaned as it beckoned for her to get
up. Opening her cornflower blue eyes she looked beside her at Mamoru
who was sleeping peacefully. Smiling she pushed his bangs out of his
face and kissed him on the forehead. Getting she walked over to her
dresser to where Motoki's picture sat. She remembered her promise to
never love anyone like she loved him and she wouldn't. But she loved
Mamoru with a new kind of love. Usagi would never forget Motoki, that
she knew but life would go on. There is always a new beginning. Taking
the picture she put it inside a drawer. With a final sigh, she closed
it.
************************************************************************
"I hear someone has a birthday coming up", Usagi said with a smile. The
park was filled with people but the two didn't mind. It was like no one
else was there. "Does he by any chance know what he wants? Any special
requests?" Mamoru grabbed her waist and pull her close to him.
"I've got everything I want", He said lovingly and gave her kiss.
"But...there is something I wanna give you." They sat on a nearby
bench and she raised her eyebrows in curiousity. Mamoru began to
feel nervous. Really...it was not that big a thing and people do
this all the time but he felt himself get nervous flutter in his
gut. Quietly he took a black velvet box and handed it to her.
"What is it?", She asked and looked at him.
"O-O-Open it", Mamoru said to her shakily. Usagi held the box and
delicately opened it to reveal a beautiful gold band. "It's a
promise ring."
"It's lovely", Usagi said and she held it in her palm. It shimmered
in the light. She put it on her finger, a perfect fit.
"It means that I won't give you an engagement ring until you WANT me
to", He said and she choked back the sob of happiness in her
throat. "I love you, I'll wait." Usagi wrapped her arms around
his neck and their lips met in a heated kiss. When they stopped
the couple gazed into one another eyes. "Hey do you think Motoki
thinks this is a good idea?" Out of nowhere a shower of cherry
blossoms flew around them. Usagi looked around in amazement. When
she looked in her hand a single blossom laid in her palm. Usagi
smiled and looked at her boyfriend.
"Yeah, I think he does", She responded.
