HIRAGANA LESSON SIX

In this lesson you will learn the Hiragana form of the sounds HA, HI, FU, HE, HO, BA, BI, BU, BE, BO, PA, PI, PU, PE, PO. To see the stroke order, all you need to do is hover your mouse over the graphic of the character shown on the page. To hear how to pronounce the characters, click your mouse on any picture of the character group.

The H* sound is much harder than the western H sound. When pronouncing H*, especially in the case of FU, you should sound somewhere between H and F


HA/BA/PA "H" and "A" combined
HI/BI/PI a huge smile. Some people laugh "hee-hee"
FU/BU/PU the tallest mountain in Japan is called Mt. Fuji
HE/BE/PE this points in the direction of "heaven"
HO/BO/PO Like HA, with a hat on... you put your hat on when you go "home"
