KATAKANA LESSON ONE

Welcome to the first lesson of Katakana! In this lesson you will learn the Katakana form of the sounds A, I, U, E, O. To see the stroke order, all you need to do is hover your mouse over the graphic of the character shown on the page. To hear how to pronounce the characters, click your mouse on any picture of the character group.

Given for each character is a little mnemonic to help you to remember how the character looks. This is the little phrase to the right of each character.


A stick your tongue out and say "Ah"
I there is an eagle on the pole
U is like Hiragana U
E looks like an H
O an old cross supported by a pole
