Chuck's Monologues – Season 2
Home
Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither was Colonel Sanders. Great ideas take a
while to catch on, especially mine, and change is not an easy thing. The future can be
scary. Especially when it comes a day early. And let's not even mention the past.
The point is, you can never be sure of what was, what will be, what is. The best thing
to do is keep your chin up, and take things a day at a time. I mean, hey, who knows?
Might even turn out okay.
The Medal
We can never escape our past, no matter how hard we run. What we've been, is what
we are. Sometimes that past is a friend. Sometimes it's our greatest enemy. It can
make us heroes, or hunt us down.
There's all kinds of courage in this crazy life. Not just the John Wayne save-the-world
kind. Sometimes you need a ton of courage just to speak your mind. Follow your
heart, opening up, telling someone how you really feel. There oughta be a purple heart
for that. Then there's the courage it takes to live with a mistake. Go through the worst
and start over. There's all kind of courage out there. Hey, that person standing next to
you on the subway car, in the supermarket, take a closer look next time. Who knows,
it might be you're standing next to a hero.
The Wedding
There's no telling why some people hold on to the past, even when it jeopardises their
future. Maybe it's because the past always looks better in the present. Or maybe, it's
because the future is as mysterious as tomorrow's newspaper
Jenny Sloan
It's easy to be cynical. Especially today, when it looks like all our heroes are crooks.
Our role models frauds. Every now and again however, when you least expect it, the
real thing comes along. Someone who can find the heart inside the cynic and give
those who hold nothing sacred something to believe in. It's not always easy telling the
good from the bad, even if you do get tomorrow's paper today. Why, is why.
Sometimes, to find the answers, you have to look in your heart.
Downsized
You don't need me to tell you again it's a dog-eat-dog world out there these days.
Winning's what it's about. Stay sharp, and never ever look weak. For every hot shot
on the way up, there's another one coming right down. And the landing is never
pretty.
Like I said, it's a competitive world out there, one day you're up, the next day it’s the
dumpster. Still, there's always hope, so keep your chin up. And don't forget to wipe
off the smutz. No one likes to admit it, it's an uncomfortable truth. The human face is
broadly divided into two categories. Winners, and losers.
Angels and Devils
Sometimes, no matter how much faith we have, we lose people. But you never forget
them. And sometimes, it's those memories that give us the faith to go on.
Redfellas
There are some things in life that transcend time, and national boundaries. Music,
love; the bond between parent and child. Things like these have no language, they
exist in the heart, in the memory, and nothing can erase them. Sometimes though, it
takes a kind of miracle to bring things back to light.
Me, I never played the violin. Or the Tenor Sax. Got a drum set when I was twelve,
but my dad put an end to that. I know this is about music though, even though playing
solo is okay, it always helps having someone backing you up. As for falling in lust
with a beautiful Russian virtuosos, that can be complicated. Especially for a corn fed
American boy. Maybe sometimes it's safer to stick with the music you already know.
On the other hand, when it comes to tomorrow's newspaper, there's a new tune,
everyday.
